The NSS Unit of Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), under Patna University, organized an online debate competition on the occasion of Earth Day, dated 22nd April 2025. The event commenced at 11:00 a.m. and was conducted virtually. The topic of the debate was “Technology: A solution or a contributor to environmental problems?”
The programme began by compering by Mahrukh Firdaus, NSS volunteer, and the welcome address was given by Dr. Jyoti Chandra, NSS Programme Officer of Unit 2, Assistant Professor Department of Chemistry, PWC, P.U.
The judges of the debate competition were Mr. R N Roy Majumdar, Assistant professor, Dept. of Chemistry, PWC and Dr. Priti Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, PWC, P.U.
The debate witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various departments, who expressed diverse viewpoints in both Hindi and English. Some participants argued that technology offers innovative solutions for sustainability, such as renewable energy, waste management, and environmental monitoring. Others highlighted how technological advancements often lead to overconsumption, pollution, and ecological degradation.
The event successfully encouraged critical thinking and awareness among students regarding the dual impact of technology on the environment. Judges appreciated the informative discussion and active involvement of the participants.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Brahma Nand , NSS Programme Officer of Unit 1, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, PWC, P.U. emphasizing the importance of informed youth engagement in environmental issues.
