The Department of Statistics at Patna Women’s College has taken a commendable step toward equipping students with essential data analysis and visualization skills by organizing an 8-day hands-on training workshop on “Basics of SPSS Statistical Analysis Software and Power BI Desktop.” The workshop was inaugurated on December 16, 2024, at Carmel Hall, Patna Women’s College, and saw enthusiastic participation from 92 students across various disciplines, including Statistics, Psychology, Political Science, Geography, and Economics.

The inaugural session began with a serene prayer song, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by esteemed dignitaries: Sister M. Jinsi A.C., Superior of Avila Convent; Dr. Shobha Srivastava, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Head of the Department of Zoology; Ms. Moon, Head of the Department of Statistics; and guest speakers, Dr. Dilip Kumar and Dr. Jayanta Basu.

Dr. Shobha Srivastava delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the importance of the workshop in shaping the analytical skills of young minds. Ms. Moon outlined the workshop’s objectives, focusing on the critical role of data analysis in modern academic and professional pursuits. Dr. Dilip Kumar and Dr. Jayanta Basu captivated the audience with their insights into the applications of SPSS in research, while Mr. Abhijit Pain highlighted the transformative potential of Power BI Desktop for data-driven decision-making.

This workshop was organized in collaboration with the George Telegraph Institution, Kolkata, known for its expertise in technical and professional training programs. Their partnership brought an added layer of excellence to the event, ensuring that participants gained practical knowledge and hands-on experience.

The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Monika Rashmi. The event transitioned seamlessly into practical sessions, where students engaged in in-depth training on SPSS and Power BI. This workshop stands as a testament to Patna Women’s College’s commitment to fostering excellence in education and preparing students for the challenges of a data-driven world.
