Biotechnology Poster Presentation Competition 2024
The Department of Biotechnology organized a Poster Presentation Competition on September 26, 2024, themed “Scientific Research.” Students participated with great enthusiasm, which helped enhance both their scientific knowledge and presentation skills. A total of seven groups took part, presenting research on diverse topics, showcasing their understanding of scientific methods and applications.
The research topics covered by the students included “Exploring the Multifaceted Bioactivities of Oxalis corniculata and Cactus Plant,” “Evaluation of Antimicrobial and Antibacterial Properties of Pleurotus sp.,” “Detection of Microplastic Content in Milk of Different Brands,” “Characterization and Evaluation of Probiotic Microorganisms from Food Sources for Health Benefits,” “Comparative Metagenomics Analysis of Carnivorous and Herbivorous Gut Microbiomes: Implications for Captivity and Conservation,” “Screening of Antimicrobial Activity of Indonesian Banana and Pineapple Fruit Peel Extracts Against Pathogenic Bacteria, Including E. coli,” and “Assessment of Heavy Metals in Spinach.”
The judging panel consisted of Dr. Pallawi (Head, Department of BBA), Dr. Priyadarshani (Head, Department of Data Science and Analytics), and Dr. Arti Kumari (Head, Department of Biotechnology). They thoroughly examined each poster, provided additional insights, and gave helpful suggestions to improve the students’ scientific presentations. Their feedback greatly enriched the overall learning experience.
Group F, consisting of Fatima Khan, Raushabhi Sinha, and Anshika Singh from M.Sc. Biotechnology (Semester III), won 1st place with their study on the “Screening of Antimicrobial Activity of Indonesian Banana and Pineapple Fruit Peel Extracts Against E. coli.” The second place was shared by two groups: Group D, with Wajiha Saadi, Suman Kumari, and Shruti Kumari, and Group E, with Farheen Firdaus, Muneera Alam, and Banazir Fatima. Group A, made up of Akanshka, Shakshi Kumari, and Saria Haider, secured 3rd place.
The event was highly successful, with all winners receiving certificates, and the other participants being awarded participation certificates. The competition was organized under the guidance of Dr. Arti Kumari, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, with Dr. Premlata Kumari overseeing the entire activity. Faculty members also contributed significantly to the success of the event, with special thanks extended to Mr. Ashish Kumar, non-teaching staff of the department, for his substantial contributions. Faculty members also encouraged student participation and provided valuable feedback for future improvements.
