Online Guest Lecture on Earth Day

To commemorate the Earth Day, the ECO Task Force, Patna Women’s College in collaboration with Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, Patna University, organized an online Guest Lecture on 22.04.2025.
The topic of an insightful Online Guest Lecture was “Tropical Island Ecosystems: Threats and Conservation Strategies”. The speaker was Ms Aditi Raj , Project Scientist, Zoological Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre and a proud alumnus of Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College. Altogether 96 ECO Task Force members attended this lecture.
The Programme started with lighting of the lamp. Ms. Muskan Bharti of semester IV, introduced the distinguished Speaker.
This lecture was a part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness about global environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices among students, researchers, and the wider community.
Ms. Aditi Raj, explained how tropical island ecosystems are among the most biodiverse and ecologically significant areas on Earth. However, they are increasingly threatened by climate change, habitat destruction, invasive species, and unsustainable human activities.
Key Highlights of the Lecture were:
• Understanding the unique biodiversity of tropical island ecosystems
• Major environmental threats and their implications and
• Opportunities for research, collaboration, and youth involvement.
The Lecture was concluded by question and answer session, where students showed their keen interest in scope of Biodiversity Research.
The compere of the event was Ms Ruqayya Fatima and the Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Simran Singh of semester VI.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Dean, Faculty of Science, Vice President ECO Task Force and Head, Dept of Zoology, PWC. All the teachers of the Department of Zoology attended the Lecture.
The entire event was coordinated by Dr. Sumeet Ranjan, Secretary, ECO Task Force and Assistant Professor , Department of Zoology, PWC.
