Online International Workshop on ‘Research Methodology in Life-Sciences’

The Department of Botany, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), successfully hosted a two-day online international workshop on “Research Methodology in Life Sciences” on September 18th and 19th, 2024.
The workshop, conducted in collaboration with Mother Veronica Excellence and Innovation Centre (MVEIC) under the aegis of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Ministry of Education, Government of India, attracted a diverse group of undergraduate and postgraduate students from Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, and Biotechnology.
The event commenced with a prayer song to invoke divine blessings, followed by a welcoming address from Dr. Shobha Srivastava, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Head of the Department of Zoology. Dr. Pinky Prasad, Head of the Department of Botany, provided an overview of the workshop’s key topics.
Renowned experts in the field delivered insightful presentations. On the first day, Dr. Kumud Bala, Professor at Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University, UP, shared her expertise on the isolation and quantification of phytochemicals, and the purification of novel compounds for potential drug development. She comprehensively discussed various extraction methods for herbal plant samples and the analysis of phytochemical constituents for antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
On the second day, Dr. Vivek Priy Dave, Scientist and Unit Leader at Unisensor SA, Belgium, provided valuable insights into nucleic acid analysis. He covered essential laboratory techniques such as extraction, purification, concentration, separation, and quantification using gel electrophoresis and PCR.
The workshop was expertly moderated by Dr. Anjana Verma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany. Dr. Urvashi Sinha and Dr. Hena Naz, Assistant Professors in the Department of Botany, delivered concluding remarks and vote of thanks, respectively. The workshop received technical assistance from Dr. Piyush Kumar Rai, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany. A total of 388 participants registered for this informative event.
