Poetry competition – I WRITE I RECITE
The Department of English, in collaboration with Poesis, Poetry Club, organized a poetry competition, ‘I WRITE, I RECITE’, on the theme, “Do I have a Voice?” on 3 September 2024 in Carmel Hall, Patna Women’s College. This annual activity of the Department of English provides a platform for its students, who are budding poets. Twelve students from both UG and PG across semesters recited their self-composed poems on the topic, each one a testament to their bravery and creativity.
The judges for the competition were, Dr Muniba Sami, Former Associate Professor, Department of English, Patna University, and Dr. Shahla Rehana, Associated Professor, Department of English, Patna Women’s College. Their expertise and experience in the field of literature ensured a proper evaluation.
Before the results were announced, the judges gave their valuable feedback. Dr. Muniba Sami stressed the need for having our own voice in the today’s world more than ever before. She also emphasised on the need to listen to the voices from the margins. She was impressed by the quality of the poems recited by the students. Dr. Shahla Rehana wanted the poets to use fresh symbols and images in their poems.
Dr. Muniba Sami announced the results, congratulated the participating students, and encouraged aspiring poets to express themselves through poetry. Saanvi Kashyap; Stuti Lal & Tasneem Fatma; and Ganga Kashyap were placed in the first, second and third positions respectively.
Dr. Prabhat Jha, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, coordinated the programme, along with Dr. Deepika Tiwari, Coordinator of Poesis, Poetry Club, Patna Women’s College.
Dr. Sahar Rahman, Head, Department of English, Dr. Devina Krishna, Dr. Nikhila Narayanan,and Dr. Apurba Paul, Assistant Professors, Department of English were present on the occasion.
Muskan, a student of MA Sem I, moderated the event, and Raheba, from MA Sem I, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
