Department of Education

The Department of Education, Patna Women’s College Autonomous organised a three day online workshop on Engaging with English, from 16th July to 18th July 2024. The Resource persons for the workshop were the alumni of the department Ms. Annupriya (session 2021-23) and Ms. Tanya Singh (session 2022-24).

The Workshop commenced with an insightful session led by Ms. Annupriya, who initiated a discussion on the fundamental disparities between literature and language, emphasizing their respective roles and significance. Later, Ms. Tanya Singh delved deeper into the intricate aspects of linguistics and vocabulary covering a session that taught us the nuances of antonyms, synonyms, heteronyms, homophones, homonyms, and homographs. Furthermore, she gave ideas for creative activities like word-making games to actively engage students, ensuring a dynamic and immersive learning experience.

On the second day, Ms. Singh enlightened the trainees on prose, delving into its forms, themes, and character types, offering valuable insights. She discussed the nuances of drama and the diversity in character portrayals, enriching our understanding significantly. Ms. Annupriya, on the other hand, provided a comprehensive overview of poetry, covering rhyming schemes, themes, and genres. Her session was illuminating, detailing various poetic forms and their expressive potential.

The third day of the online workshop focused on creative writing objectives, purpose, and form. After that, there was a recap of the entire three-day topic, covering reading strategies, poetry analysis, prose analysis, and creative writing. Attendees also provided feedback, and the session concluded with appreciative feedback from Dr. Sister M. Saroj A.C., Head, Department of Education and vote of thanks by Astha.
