The Department of Sociology at Patna Women’s College (Autonomous) Patna University organized a Guest Lecture on October 21, 2024 on the topic ” Transgender persons: Their identity and social Acceptance” in collaboration with History Department and “WE”- PWC Gender Cell . The resource person for the guest lecture was Reshma Prasad, Transgender activist, founding member of DOSTANASAFAR and senate member of Patna University.
The programme began with the Welcome address by The Head of Department of Sociology , Dr. Tapashi Bhattacharjee followed by Reshma Prasad insightful address in which she captivated students with an engaging presentation on transgender effectively distinguishing between sexuality and gender. Her interactive approach included games that encouraged participation and fostered discussion, creating a dynamic learning environment.
She provided a historical context of transgender issues, outlining legal milestones that have shaped the current landscape. Through games, she facilitated an engaging dialogue, allowing students to share perspectives which reflected a collective commitment to understand and support transgender individuals in our society. Afterwards students were involved in an Question and Answer Session with Reshma Prasad Ma’am where she addressed the questions with thoughtful insights, encouraging students to explore the nuances of gender and sexuality further. The Event Concluded with the Group photography , fostering a sense of inclusiveness.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Tapashi Bhattacharjee Head, Department of Sociology, alongwith Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C. Head,Department of History and Ms. Puja, coordinator WE PWC Gender Cell and faculty members. The Programme was Moderated by Payal Kumari Ojha, a student of sociology department and vote of thanks was proposed by Sukanya Navneet, a student of Sociology department.
