Alumni Meet (in Hybrid Mode)

The Department of Computer Applications (MCA) organized Alumni Meet on 21.10.22 in hybrid mode. Students from various batches attended the meet in offline as well as online mode. Various cultural programmes were performed by the current students of MCA Semester I and Semester III. There were games for both the online and offline alumni, which they enjoyed a lot.

Students of senior passout batches shared their experiences and motivated the students for better career and placement. Prof. Ameeta Jaiswal, President, Alumni Association, Patna Women’s College was the special invitee, who addressed the students and shared the details of various activities being performed by the Alumni Association, and also encouraged them to join the Life membership of the Alumni Association. Dr. Bhawna Sinha, Head, Department of MCA, gave the closing remarks and thanked the alumni for their active participation. Teachers of MCA and BCA departments were present during the alumni meet. All the students as well as teachers enjoyed and cherished the moments of the alumni meet. Overall, it was a memorable event.

Cyber Security Awareness: Challenges and its Emerging Trends

A Webinar on ‘Cyber Security Awareness: Challenges and its Emerging Trends’ was organized by the Department of Computer Applications(MCA), on 18^th October, 2022 at 11:00am to raise awareness and highlight the importance of cyber safety and digital security. The month of October is marked as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM).

The undergraduate and Postgraduate students of various departments attended the online session, which was projected on the big screen, so that entire class can attend and avail the Awareness of Cybersecurity.

Sri Sushil Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime Cell, Economic Offences Unit, Bihar, Patna, was the invited speaker for the session.

The webinar started with the prayer for invoking God’s blessings. After the auspicious note,
Dr. Bhawna Sinha introduced the theme of the webinar and its requirement in the present times. Nowadays India is witnessing the digital revolution and is gradually implementing changes to make society cashless. India’s economy is taking full advantage of digitization in a variety of disciplines and industries. In today’s digital age, cybercrime affects all of us directly or indirectly because as individuals and companies, we all have information that is worth something to cyber criminals. We are living in an increasingly digital world and it is very important that we educate ourselves about cyber security. Raising awareness of possible cyber threats/ scenarios and encouraging good cyber habits is one of the best ways to maintain a sustainable strengthened security posture.

Shri Sushil Kumar Sir started his lecture by presenting current Cyber Security statistics and facts. In his session, he discussed about the different types of Cyber Crime. He explained a number of topics that comes under the umbrella of Cyber Security issues. He talked about Social Media related crimes like Fake Profile, Cyber Stalking, Cyber Pornography, Email Spoofing, Phishing/Vishing etc. He also shared his views about Job fraud, Loan Fraud, Cracking, the Dark Web, Deep web etc. Apart from this, he also shared a number of Cyber Security tips. Especially he suggested to always keep strong passwords for both wireless and broadband router, hide personal information, beware of revenge pornography, beware of Wi-Fi hacking etc. He also shared safety tips for kids. He introduced about the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal from where we can file our complaints.

At last there was a question-answer session in which the students actively participated. They asked questions from different areas of cyber-crimes and Shri Sushil Kumar Sir answered all their queries satisfactorily.

Ms. Poonam Abhraham Lakra, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications (MCA) proposed the Vote of Thanks to all dignitaries for their valuable guidance, all the organizing committee members for their efforts and to all participants for being good audience. Digital Poster Making Competition

Climate Change and Technology: Prospects and Challenges

The Department of MCA conducted a Digital Poster Making Competition (College Level) on the theme ‘Climate Change and Technology: Prospects and Challenges’. Students from various departments participated and total 45 entries were received. The last date for poster submission was 27.9.2022. All the posters were displayed and were judged by Ms. Sushmita Chakraborty and Ms. Poonam A. Lakra, Assistant Professors of Department of Computer Applications (MCA). The program was incepted and coordinated under the supervision of Ms. Pratima Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications (MCA)

Topic: Leadership

Leadership is important because it inspires, motivates, and sets an example for people to accomplish positive changes in the world. The Department of Computer Applications (MCA) has organized a lecture on the topic “Leadership” to help the MCA students develop the leadership skill in them. The lecture was delivered by Ms. Nusrath Sohail. The resource person discussed the following topics:

● Qualities of a Leader and Leadership

• Behaviour
• Communication skills
• Vision
• Discipline, etc

● Discussion on Renowned Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Adolf Hitler, etc.
● Leadership at different levels of management (Top, Middle, Lower)

The students gained a lot of knowledge about developing leadership qualities. They learned how to lead a group of people, how leadership skill is important in an organization, how to become a good leader and so many things regarding leadership skills that are definitely going to help them in their career in future.

An Online Workshop
On
Intellectual Property Rights(IPR) & Patents and Design Filing

An online workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patents & Design Filing’, was organized on 10th October, 2022 at 4:30pm, by the Department of Computer Applications(MCA) and Research & Development Cell, Patna Women’s College(Autonomous), in association with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM), Government of India, Nagpur. The purpose of the workshop was to create awareness among students, and faculties on IPR that will further strengthen the IPR regime of our country which will boost the “Creative India, Innovative India” objective of the National IPR policy. In order to implement the objectives of the National IPR Policy, under the National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM) and to safeguard the interest of the inventors by upgrading the IP skills of Faculties, and Students, RGNIIPM is conducting Online workshops on IPR- Patents & Designs filing” for Universities and Higher Education institutes. RGNIIPM has been established by the Government of India as the Center of Excellence for IPR training under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and is engaged in conducting training programs relating to Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) under National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM).

The workshop started with the Prayer Song for invoking God’s blessings. Dr. Bhawna Sinha, Head, Department of Computer Applications(MCA) & Coordinator, Research and Development Cell introduced the theme of workshop and welcomed the resource person for the workshop
Mrs. Pooja Vishal Maulikar, who is working in the Central Government Office under the Patent Office, Ministry of Commerce & Industry and presently working as an Examiner of Patents and Designs (Group A Gazetted Officer). She is examining the national & international Patent applications for IPO Mumbai. She also welcomed all the distinguished participants attending the workshop.

Mrs Pooja Vishal Maulikar started her lecture with a thanksgiving note to the organizers for giving importance to this topic. She gave an introduction of Intellectual Property (IP). She stressed on the fact that nowadays most of us know about IP and are indulged in the creation of IP related contents, but we don’t bother about the secondary thing that is to do an IP filing. There is a misconception that IP is only for personal growth and development. She emphasized that through IP, we can contribute in our country’s growth and development also. We can reduce the dependency of our country on external resources. She also talked about the confusion that people face during filing a patentable content. There are different categories of IP which should be taken care of while filing a patent. She gave a very detailed presentation on how to distinguish among different categories and also discussed about different aspects of IP.
More than 100 participants were benefitted from the workshop which includes faculties and students. The resource person answered the queries of the participants. It was a very informative and knowledgeable session.

The Department of Computer Applications (MCA) organised the Personality Development and Soft Skills classes on the topic of “Career and Planning Management”. Career development is an ongoing process of gaining knowledge and improving skills that will help an individual to establish a career plan. The objective of this session was to spread awareness about different career development options for the MCA students. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Alok John. The resource person discussed the following topics:

  • Career stages (exploration , establishment, maintenance , late)
  • Importance of carrier planning

The students were highly excited to learn about the different aspects of Career and Planning Management. The session was quite beneficial for them.

BRIEF REPORT OF WEBINAR
Research Paper Writing On
28th September, 2022

A Webinar on the topic “Research Paper Writing” was organized by the Department of Computer Applications (MCA), Patna Women’s College (Autonomous) with an objective to spread the knowledge and awareness about research paper writing. The ability to do research and use it intelligently in writing should be a basic skill of any academic person.Understanding how to analyse, evaluate, criticize, combine, and draw conclusions from information sources is crucial to everyday decisions. The webinar was successful inachieving this objective by conducting two sessions on the related topics conducted by two eminent resource persons. Dr. Bhawna Sinha, Head, Department of Computer Applications (MCA) delivered the welcome address to welcome the guest speakers, Dr. Sudin Bag,Vidyasagar University, West Bengal and Dr. Indrajit Ghosal, Poornima University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, Principal Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Vice-Principal Sister M. Tanisha A.C., other dignitaries and all other participants.

Topic: Data Analysis Using Smart PLS
Resource Person: Dr. Sudin Bag, Assistant Professor and Ex-Head, Department of Business Administration, Vidyasagar University

Dr. Bhawna Sinha, HoD, presented a brief introduction of the resource person, Dr. Sudin Bag, who has more than 11 years of working experience which includes both corporate exposure as well as teaching experience in colleges and universities. She also introduced the theme of the first session of the webinar ‘Data Analysing using Smart PLS’. SmartPLS is a software with a graphical user interface for variance-based structural equation modeling using the partial least squares path modeling method. Increasingly a number of scholars and academics are using SMART-PLS for dataanalysis in their research studies. Dr. Sudin Bag discussed the importance of data in everyone’s life. He said that data is fruitful for the society as well as the academicians. He talked about first order and second order analysis of the data. He also discussed about SPSS software and also compared its application with SMART-PLS. He explained each and every aspect of the SMART-PLS software in a very appropriate manner, which works better on primary data, with the help of an example. The session was quite informative and broadened the horizon of knowledge of all those attending the webinar about using these tools for various statistical analyses during their research work.

Dr. Bhawna Sinha, HoD, introduced the resource person by presenting a brief profile of Dr. Indrajit Ghosal, who is an experienced researcher. She introduced the theme of the second session of the webinar “Reviewing the Research Article and Calculation of H index and I 10 Index”.Writing a review of literature is to provide a critical evaluation of the data available from existing studies. Review articles can identify potential research areas to explore next, and sometimes they will draw new conclusions from the existing data. Dr. Indrajit Ghosal explained about reviewing the research paper and to calculate the h index
and i 10 index on the basis of citations. He started his session with a detailed explanation of characteristics of an academic journal. His presentation was quite informative as he gave minute details of writing a research paper like, title of the paper, abstract, keywords, introduction->objective, literature review->research gap, research methodology, data analysis
and interpretation, conclusion, etc. Later he talked about the theoretical and practical implications of the research work, future scope of the research work in great detail. He also gave information about SCI-HUB which is used for downloading research papers which can’t be downloaded through Google Scholar. In the end he explained how to compute h index and i 10 index. The entire session was quite interesting and fruitful for the participants of the
webinar. In the end the resource person answered the queries of the participants. Ms. Sushmita Chakraborty, Assistant Professor, proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Praveen Kumar, Assistant Professor gave the technical support for the smooth functioning of the Webinar on Zoom platform.

There is a great need to sensitize the society on gender issues because it overall helps to determine and ensure the equal roles, responsibilities, opportunities, privileges and expectations of men and women within the society. Keeping this objective in mind, the Department of Computer Applications organized a presentation competition on the topic “GENDER EQUALITY IN CONTEMPORARY INDIA: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS” for the students of MCA to create awareness among them on this crucial topic. Mr. Praveen Kumar, Assistant Professor and Dr. Priyadarshini, Assistant Professor were the judges for the competition.

A total of 18 teams participated in the competition. All the students have given their best performance in delivering the presentation. The presentations were judged on the basis of Creativity/Clarity of Content, Relevance to the theme and Overall Presentation. The result of the Presentation Competition is as follows:

All the teachers and students of MCA Semester I attended the webinar.

Department of Computer Applications (MCA) conducted an interactive session on Graphic Design in collaboration with Loons India on 16.09.2022.The speakers for the session were  Mr. Sakanksha Deo – Co-Founder & Head of Strategy, and Ms. Meenakshi Co-Founder & Head of Operation, Loons. The session started with the welcome address by Dr. Bhawna Sinha, Head, Department of Computer Applications (MCA). MCA Students of Semester I and III along with all the teachers of the Department, attended the session.

In this digital era, Graphic Design is an essential element for designing attractive visual content for Social Media platforms, logo designing or website designing. During this programme students learnt about the Graphic Design, its applications and prospects.

In this session the students came to learn that Stress is a common reaction, but when it becomes constant it can turn into a problem. They learned how a balanced lifestyle can help them to manage stress. The session was quite interactive and the students were given some Psychological exercises, which they enjoyed a lot. They also learned some tips to handle themselves in a situation of Stress.

The Department of Computer Applications (MCA) has started a series of Personality Development and Soft Skills classes for MCA students with a great objective of looking at life with a positive attitude. It not only develops our outer self but also, our inner self. Such classes will enable our students to have a personal vision of the future; it will help them to figure out what they are passionate about and will help them to face failures with strength and an affirmative attitude.

Under this series, on Saturday, 10^th September, 2022, two sessions were conducted in the department.

They learnt to attract the audience so that they can hear you and how to get engaged with the audience. They came to know about the knowledge of overcoming the common fear of public speaking. Overall the session was very much fruitful for the students.

The speaker adopted “Learning by Doing” approach. After discussing the important components of group discussion, she encouraged the students for group discussion on some current topics. In between, she was also giving valuable inputs like how to present yourself in front of an interviewer and various things to be maintained in a group discussion like how to put your point in a group discussion, how to pick up the points in discussion, how to make observer feel that you are also a part of the discussion, to grasp the attention of crowd during the discussion etc. The session was quite interactive. They learned to express their views, to improve their thinking, listening and speaking skills. It also enhanced their confidence level. Overall the experience of group discussion was amazing as all the students took part in it with great enthusiasm and zeal.
