Online international symposium on career guidance : 'Women & Biotechnology'

Department of Biotechnology, Patna women’s college organized an online international symposium on career guidance: “Women & Biotechnology” on 24.08.2022 on virtual platform from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The beneficiaries for the session were the students of 1st semester Biotechnology (P.G) & 5th semester UG students of Department of Microbiology and Botany. The session was commenced by remembering the almighty by a prayer service. Dr Arti Kumari, Head Department of Biotechnology introduced the Keynote speakers to audience. Dr. Aprajita Krishna, Dean, Faculty of Science, Patna women’s college welcomed our speakers and also described the college research culture. The keynote speaker for the event Dr. Suphiya Khan, CRISP oxford fellow, Associate professor, Director & Founder of Drumlins water technologies Pvt. Ltd. Department of Biosciences and Biotechnology, Banasthali Vidyapith shared her presentation on the topic Fluorosis where she discussed about the contamination of fluoride in water and it’s removal using nano particles. Dr Suphiya Khan guided and motivated students by throwing light on her foundation company which was set up with the help of Atal Incubation Center, Govt. of India. She represented a complete picture of researcher to entrepreneur after taking up career in the field of Biotechnology. She also talked about the various govt. programs which is available for Undergraduate and Ppostgraduate students especially NIDHI Prayash by DST, Govt. of India and SRISTI program by BIRAC. The second keynote speaker Dr. Zeenat Mirza, Associate professor, King Fahd Medical Research Center, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah (Alumni of Patna Women’s college) presented talk on holistic identification of disease biomarkers. She shared concepts of Bioinformatics (transcriptomics and proteomics) which plays important role in the field of Biotechnology in handling large amount of data to understand the complications of diseases like cancer & many other. She also emphasized on importance of these research which is helpful to treat patient based on his/her personal need for better recovery and less side effects. She motivated students to learn & work in this area. Our last keynote speaker Dr. Pushpa Kumari, Deputy manager (research & ops), WNS Global services, Former DBT/welcome fellow, regional center of Biotechnology, Faridabad threw light on career guidance after pursuing post-graduation and PhD. She showed the new facets of career options like Bioinformatics, Science communications, Science Journalism etc. where the students of biotechnology can think upon for their bright future. She suggested students to choose mentors in their life and always build skills by internships & trainings to achieve the bigger goals in life. She suggested students to subscribe community web – Letters like India Biosciences and Biopatrika where they can get information about various grants and job vacancies. All the sessions were followed by an interactive session where students posed their queries. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Nivedita Priyadarshni, Assistant Professor, Patna Women’s College. The program ended with National Anthem.
