Highlights of the Department

Department of Sociology was established in the year 1987. The Department offers Undergraduate Programme.
• The Department consists of highly qualified and experienced faculty. It also has rich Departmental Library.
• It is a Parent Department of Master’s in social work (MSW) programme since 2020.
• The faculty members of the department are constantly engaged in Research Work through paper presentations, papers & articles publications
and supervising students with CPE projects and Dissertations.
• The Department seeks to develop in students the sociological knowledge and skills that will enable them to think critically and imaginatively about society and social issues.
• The faculty members help their students to prepare themselves for careers in teaching, delivery and administration of social and health services, urban and environmental studies, Law and Government services.
• Department conducts various Cultural and Academic related activities like Debates, Extempore, Quiz, Poster making and essay writing with the aim to
provide exposure to the students and help them develop their overall personality. Apart from this, students are encouraged to participate in programs at college, university & national level.
• Guest lectures, webinars, exchanges programs, value judgement classes and interactive sessions on relevant themes are also organized.
• Constant guidance & counselling is provided to the students by the teachers through process of Mentoring.
• Parent-Teacher Meet is also conducted by the department to discuss and assess the progress of the students with the parents.

• Department has approximately 250 students in core course currently.
• Most of our students are toppers and university rank holders and have cleared competitive examinations like UGC NET-JRF, GATE.
• Many of are students are working as professors in universities, teacher in government or private schools, officers in banks, working with law firms &
NGO’s and qualified civil services examinations.

Department of Sociology Organised a freshers Day Programme for the new batch of 1st year on 12th Feb 2021 in MTH.

The theme of the freshers Programme was “Women Emancipation “.
The Guest of the Programme were the member of Cultural Committee Dr. Celine Crasta A.C. Head, dept of History and Ms. Samiksha Sinha, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology.

Department of Sociology conducted a Personality Development class on the topic “Faith in God”.
A short story was shown to students, the story mainly focused on the importance of faith and compassion in life. Through the story students were motivated to always walk on the path of truth and compassion which may lead you to become a messenger of God to anyone in life. In today’s Era seeking human kindness is a rare sight, students were encouraged to give more importance to humanity to make a compassionate world for all in future.

The class was Facilitated by Dr. Chandni Sinha, with semester V on 31st July 2021 through LMS Portal.

Department of Sociology organised an Online Quiz Competition on “World Malala Day” with semester II on 12th July 2021 at 12:30 pm through LMS Portal.

Malala Day is commemorated on 12th July on the Birthday of Malala Yousafzai. An inspirational video on Malala’s life was shown to students, and later the quiz was open for all. The performance and participation of the students was enthusiastic and highly appreciatable. At the end, the Head of Department congratulated the students for their active participation.

Department of Sociology conducted a Value Judgement Class on the topic “Clarity of Thoughts”. A short story was shown to students. It was followed by an interactive session on the importance of compassion, empathy, enhancing the listening skills, understanding others point of view and how these qualities leads to clarity of thoughts in life. The class was facilitated by Ms. Samiksha Sinha, on 2nd July 2021, at 3 pm through LMS Portal.
