Highlights of the department
- The department of Statistics was established in 2013. Its offers a 4-year Undergraduate Programme in B.Sc. Statistics (hons.) based on NEP 2020.
- The department also offers two credit-based Add-on certificate courses in Biostatistics and Data Analysis using SPSS.
- The department facilitates internship opportunities for its students at the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Bihar and other Private and Corporate sectors.
- R, Minitab and SPSS programming have been incorporated into the B.Sc. (Statistics) undergraduate syllabus, providing students with essential tools for advanced studies and research
- The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to prepare students for various national-level competitive examinations, including UPSC (ISS), BPSC, IIT-JAM, GATE, and others.
- The department regularly organizes co-curricular activities like guest lectures, poster-making competitions, speech competitions, and celebration of National Statistics Day.
- Emphasis is placed on nurturing positive work ethics, life skills, and scientific temperament among students.
- Practical and analytical skills are developed through assignments, CIA, annual projects, and research presentations under SRP and BSR scheme.
- Faculty members also participate in research activities, seminars, conferences, workshops and professional development programmes.

- The course provides practical training in data analysis using SPSS software.
- It helps students learn data management, statistical techniques and interpretation of results for research purposes.
- The course is useful for applications in social sciences, health sciences, business analytics and academic research.
PROGRAMME OUTCOME: Upon the completion of program, the students will be able to:
- Examine various hypotheses involved, and identify and consult relevant resources to find their rational answers.
- Develop capability to identify logical flaws and loopholes in the arguments of practicing Statisticians, analyse and synthesize data from a variety of sources and accordingly draw conclusions
- Develop original thinking for formulating new problems and providing their solutions.
- Develop effective and confident analytical skill after completion of the course.
PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOME
- Demonstrate an application of statistical tools and techniques in almost all fields which are indispensable for people working in fields like agriculture, business, management, economics, finance insurance, education, research, etc.

- Apply statistical tests judiciously to a variety of data sets to arrive at some valid conclusions.

What is STATVISTA?
STATVISTA Club is the official student-led academic initiative of the Department of Statistics, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University.
