Established in 2020, the Department of Social Work is one of the fastest-growing departments at Patna Women’s College, committed to academic excellence, research, and social responsibility. ‘Platinum Jubilee foundation Scholarships’
Patna Women’s College founded in 1940, celebrated the 75th year of its year of its existence in 2015 with a history of a academic excellence, committed services and holistic development. As part of the platinum Jubilee, the college has set up a scholarship fund for Economically deprived but meritorious students to complete their studies. One student from Department of Social Work has been awarded by this fellowship. Akanksha from Department of Social Work been awarded with ‘Platinum Jubilee foundation Scholarships’.

Add on Certificate Course
‘SERVICE-LEARNING’
Course Description
Service-Learning is an experiential learning pedagogy that integrates academically relevant community service activities with classroom instruction to address human and societal needs. Patna Women’s College has introduced a Credit-based Add-on Certificate Course in Service-Learning with the objective of connecting classroom learning with meaningful community engagement. The course enables students to apply their academic knowledge and skills to identify community issues, design appropriate interventions, and actively participate in community development initiatives.
Course Rationale
Service-Learning provides students with opportunities to apply theoretical concepts and disciplinary knowledge in real-life community contexts. Through active participation in service activities, students gain practical exposure, strengthen employability skills, and develop a sense of civic responsibility and ethical citizenship. The course also fosters social awareness, leadership qualities, interpersonal competence, and commitment towards sustainable community development.

Upon completion of the Add-on Course, the students will be able to:

Introduction
The Social Work Club at Patna Women’s College aims to foster student engagement with social issues, promote the values of social justice, and strengthen the connection between academic learning and community service. The club will provide a dynamic platform for students to interact with local communities, raise awareness about pressing social concerns, and develop leadership, empathy, and teamwork skills through active participation in community-based projects and initiatives. SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION CELL
Introduction
Substance Abuse Prevention Cell of Patna Women’s College functions under the nationwide initiative Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, on 15 August 2020. The campaign aims to create awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free society, especially among youth and educational institutions.
The cell is committed to promoting awareness, prevention, counselling, and community participation to build a safe, healthy, and substance-free campus environment.
Functions
- Collaboration: To collaborate with governmental agencies, NGOs, healthcare professionals, rehabilitation centres, and community organizations working in the field of substance abuse prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and awareness generation.
- Awareness and Sensitization: To sensitize students and the college community about the harmful effects of substance abuse through academic, cultural, literary, and extracurricular activities.
- Education and Capacity Building: To promote healthy and substance-free lifestyles by organizing seminars, workshops, awareness drives, guest lectures, counselling sessions, poster-making competitions, street plays, and peer education programmes.
- Campus Outreach and Community Engagement:To conduct outreach programmes in nearby communities and educational institutions to spread awareness regarding the prevention of substance abuse and the importance of mental and physical well-being.
- Nodal Agency: To function as the nodal body for all substance abuse prevention, awareness, counselling, and rehabilitation-related initiatives undertaken by the college.
- Counselling and Support: To facilitate guidance, counselling, and referral support for students or individuals affected by substance abuse, in collaboration with professional agencies and counsellors.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: To monitor, review, and evaluate the effectiveness of awareness and prevention programmes conducted by the cell.
Objectives
- Awareness Creation: To create awareness among students, faculty members, and the community regarding the harmful effects and consequences of substance abuse.
- Prevention and Control: To undertake preventive initiatives and implement programmes aimed at minimizing substance abuse within and beyond the campus.
- Guidance and Rehabilitation Support: To offer counselling, guidance, and support services to individuals affected by substance abuse and facilitate their access to rehabilitation services.
- Institutional Collaboration: To develop coordination and collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, healthcare institutions, and other organizations working in the field of substance abuse prevention and rehabilitation.
- Promotion of Healthy Lifestyle: To encourage and promote a healthy, disciplined, and substance-free lifestyle among students and the wider community.
- Assessment and Improvement: To regularly assess, monitor, and strengthen the effectiveness of awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation initiatives undertaken by the cell.

Course Structure Based on Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)
PROGRAMME OUTCOMES
PO1: The Program develops a wider understanding about the basic human rights, equal opportunity, the developmental needs, suitability of the environment, and services for the people living at different cultural context to facilitate healthy living and well-being.
PO2: The Program seeks to develop in students the knowledge and skills of working with diverse groups of population in various set-ups like, communities, schools, institutions, organizations, industries and hospitals.
PO3: The Programme would make the students able to analyse the problems through critical understanding of the situation and facilitate appropriate measures through social work intervention.
