Highlights of the Department
- The Department of Mass Communication was established with the goal of giving young media aspirants a place to pursue their ambition. It has grown over time into a fully-fledged department offering a variety of activities designed to give the students the skills necessary to become true media professionals.
- The primary focus of the department is on teaching students the fundamentals of media, reporting and editing, print and electronic media, professional studies, video production, advertising, public relations, and communication, as well as graphic design, photojournalism, and development communication.
- The Department of Mass Communication has a modern computer lab that is air-conditioned and well-equipped. The students receive instruction on the fundamentals of online editing, page creation, graphics, and design. To provide students practical training, the department also uses its digital camera, Personal Cut Pro, and LCD TV with cable connection.
- To cater to the needs of the students, the department has a library with 2225 books, important national and regional newspapers, magazines, and periodicals. Regular workshops, guest lectures, and interactive sessions with media professionals are organised by the department.
- Additionally, the curriculum includes instructional tours, on-site visits, and on-the-job training. Students of Mass Communication participate in a variety of intra- and intercollegiate activities.
- The department has its own YouTube news channel, PWC NEWS, which encompasses all college events. The department publishes the student lab magazine Headway, and a broadsheet newspaper The Voice. Furthermore, the students create book covers and make brief movies, documentaries, public service announcements, and newscasts.
- A one-year Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Journalism and Mass Communication is also offered by the department of Mass Communication.
