The Legacy of the Alumni
Dr. (Mrs.) Kalawati Tripathi, was born in 1923. She was University Professor and Head, Dept. of Hindi, Patna Women’s College, Patna University. She joined Patna Women’s College as lecturer in 1948. She was elected and nominated member of Patna University Senate for three years. She was also Member of the Governing Body, Patna Women’s College; Member of the Governing Body, Bankipore Girls High School, Patna and member- Bihar Legislative Council (Nominated) 1984-1990. She breathed her last in 2009.
Dr. Indira Verma was born on 24th July 1935 at Motihari. She passed her matriculation in 1951 and was married to Shri Bhisma Prasad, an engineer. She came to Patna after her marriage and concentrated on her studies. She did the Intermediate and Graduation from Patna Women’s College. She got first class in B.A. Hons. She passed her M.A. from Patna University in First Position. After completing her studies she was selected by the BPSC for the post of lecturer. She joined Patna Women’s College as a teacher in 1957. Dr. Sister Lucile A.C. was the Principal at the time of her joining. She got a chance to learn a lot from her experiences. During her teaching career she was also involved in extracurricular activities of the College. She played active role in organizing sports, cultural activities, conducting examination, etc. She regarded Dr. Sister Liceria A.C. as her friend, philosopher and guide. She worked under her guidance. Till today she is maintaining her close association with her. At present she is leading a quiet and peaceful retired life. Her daughters are settled in US. She is very fond of Dr. Ameeta Jaiswal, Head, Dept. of Philosophy. She has maintained her close association with her till today.
Shama Talat, was born in 1st January, 1943.She Passed 10thin 1958 first division; I.A. inArts in 1960 second division; Bachelor of Artsin 1962 second class in Urdu; Master of Arts in 1965 second class in Economics.She had been in Patna Women’s College hostel for four years from 1958 to 1962. Sister Lucile A.C. was the Principal at that time and she was her beloved professor of Economics. She liked this subject that is why she changed her line and did her M.A. in Economics.
Dr. Alpana Sen Gupta was born in 1953. Professor& Head (Retd), P.G. Centre of Psychology, College of Commerce, Arts & Science (COCAS), PPU. HerGraduation is from Patna Women’s College, Psychology Honors.Session: 1971- 1973, M.A. & PhD (Patna University, Ten years P.G. teaching and Research experience as a Research Associate (1983- 1988, 1992 – 1996) at Dept. of Psychology, Patna University, She feels very proud being alumni of Patna Women’s College. She admits that she has learned discipline, dedication for work, honesty to serve the needy and downtrodden from the college. Cultural heritage of this college is unique. Today, what she is she owes to this college, teachers and parents. Remembrance of the golden days of student life at Patna Women’s College makes her smile.
Mrs. Sudha Bhatt (Virlley) was born on 11th October 1938 in Patna. She did her schooling from Mount Carmel School, Patna and did graduation from Patna Women’s College in 1961 under Principal Mother Theodosia A.C. She completed her B.Ed. In 1961-1962 from B.Ed. College, Patna with Hindi Literature as her subject. She got married and came to Jamshedpur. She joined St. Joseph Welfare Centre, Golmuri (Bishop House) 1971 under Principal Fr. Joseph Currie and parish priest Fr. CR Prabhu who was in charge of JYOTI club in St. Joseph Welfare Centre under Fr. Currie. She took Stitching and tailoring classes for poor women in Bishop House. She joined Loyola High School, Jamshedpur as a Hindi teacher on 14th January 1972 under Principal Fr. McGauly. She was in charge of Hindi drama and skit that was performed during Parent Teachers’ Meeting. She also trained students for Hindi elocution. She retired in 2000 with one year of extension under Fr. Pius Fernandes.
Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra Years in College and Course Pre-University- 1965, B.A Part –I: 1965-1966, B.A (Hons) Political Science: 1966-1968. (Honors classes were held in Patna College in those days.). Former Judge of Patna & Rajasthan, High Court. She was the first Woman Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court at Ranchi. She became the fourth Woman Judge of the Supreme Court of India , New Delhi and the only Lady Judge from Bihar and Jharkhand so far, to have been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India New Delhi. Currently functioning as Arbitrator in National and International Commercial Arbitrations

Department of English, Patna Women’s College organised a guest lecture on August 1, 2024 at 12 noon in Carmel Hall to mark the beginning of the “PWC Alumni Connect” programme. Introducing this unique initiative of Patna Women’s College, Dr Sahar Rahman, Head of the department, said that it aims to provide the students and teachers a platform to listen to and interact with the outstanding alumni from different fields. It would also give the alumni an opportunity to give back to their alma mater by sharing their expertise with the present students and forge a connect with the institution.
The topic of the guest lecture cum presentation was “Research Plan: Approaches in Literature”. The guest speaker was Dr Richa, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Patna College, Patna University. She is an alumna of the department of English, Patna Women’s of the session 2004-07. She shared her insights on the steps of drafting an effective research plan and using dominant approaches of Literary Theory. The lecture was lucid and presentation powerful. The presentation was followed by a vibrant discussion on the practical aspects of research.
The session was moderated by Stuti Lal, a student of B.A semester V, Department of English, Patna Women’s College and the vote of thanks was proposed by Swati Alice Clifton, a student of M.A. semester III, Department of English, Patna Women’s College. The lecture was attended by students from B.A. semester III and V, and M.A. semester I and III.
An Online Interactive Session on
“Higher Avenues of Physics – I & II”

As a part of PWC Alumni Connect, Department of Physics organised a series of an Interactive session on “Higher Avenues of Physics”. There were two sessions inclusive of one by Ms. Rakshan Noor and the other by Ms. Shruti Raj. An online session on the theme “The Higher Avenues of Physics. On August 1st. 2024 at 11:00 am in Computer Lab, 1st floor, Science Block for the students of B.Sc. Physics Semester 3 and 5. The resource person was Ms. Rakshan Noor, PGT (Physics), Rajkiya Ambedkar 10+2 Awasiya Balika Uchh Vidyalaya, Ara Bhojpuri. She was an alumna of 2010-2013.
She discussed about her journey and the process she went through to achieve that milestone. She also shared information about various entrance examinations through which we can pursue our careers. Additionally, she discussed about STET,TET, CTET, TGT, PGT, KVS and many more government level examinations. It was very fruitful and enlightening session, the students had a great learning experience. The second online session was conducted next day on the theme “The Higher Avenues of Physics II” on August 2nd, 2024 at 2:00 pm in Computer Lab, 1st floor, Science Block for the students of B.Sc. Physics Semester 3 and 5. The resource person was Ms Shruti Raj, Revenue Officer, Revenue and Land Reforms, Govt of Bihar. She was an alumna of 2012-2015.
She discussed about her journey and the process she went through to achieve that milestone. She also shared information about various civil services examinations through which we can pursue our careers. Additionally, she discussed about SSC, UPSC, SSCCGL, BPSC and many more government level examinations. She inspired us in many ways. It was very fruitful and enlightening session; the students had a great learning experience. All the teachers Dr. Kavita Verma, Head, Department of Physics, Dr Amrita, Dr Riekshika Sanwari, Dr Lalit Kumar Sharma, Dr. Manishi Puja, Ms. Chandni Kumar of the Department of Physics were present for the webinar. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Riekshika Sanwari.

The Department of Philosophy organised a Guest Lecture on “Legal Education related to the Rights of Women” on 26th July 2024 as an initiative to connect with its Alumni. The Guest speaker, Radha Kumari, Advocate, Patna High Court is an Alumnus of the department (2010-2013 batch). She discussed the importance of Philosophy of law (Jurisprudence) especially related to Women’s right and Human Rights. She focused on the Constitutional and Fundamental aspects of Women’s Rights. Her lecture emphasized the importance of awareness of the legal rights. All th students of the department were present and a lively interactive session followed. The Head

The Department of Advertising and Marketing Management organized a Guest lecture on the topic “Why are employability Skills are Important for Management students “ on 25/07/2024. The Guest speaker for the occasion was Dr. Anjali Priyadarshini, R&D Coordinator, Associate Professor and Head SRM University, Delhi NCR, Sonipat Haryana.
Dr. Priyadarshini is an eminent alumnus of Patna Women’s College batch1995-1998, Department of Industrial Microbiology.
The guest speaker emphasized on the importance of soft skills which were required by the students to be market ready. Collaboration with industry experts through workshops and lectures help students to enhance their skills set by gaining market insights.
The session was attended by 150 students from the Faculties of Advertising and Marketing Management, Commerce, Accounting Finance, and Commerce Professional. The students belonged to semester 5,3, and 1.

The Department of Education, Patna Women’s College Autonomous organised a three day online workshop on Engaging with English, from 16th July to 18th July 2024. The Resource persons for the workshop were the alumni of the department Ms. Annupriya (session 2021-23) and Ms. Tanya Singh (session 2022-24).
The Workshop commenced with an insightful session led by Ms. Annupriya, who initiated a discussion on the fundamental disparities between literature and language, emphasizing their respective roles and significance. Later, Ms. Tanya Singh delved deeper into the intricate aspects of linguistics and vocabulary covering a session that taught us the nuances of antonyms, synonyms, heteronyms, homophones, homonyms, and homographs. Furthermore, she gave ideas for creative activities like word-making games to actively engage students, ensuring a dynamic and immersive learning experience.
On the second day, Ms. Singh enlightened the trainees on prose, delving into its forms, themes, and character types, offering valuable insights. She discussed the nuances of drama and the diversity in character portrayals, enriching our understanding significantly. Ms. Annupriya, on the other hand, provided a comprehensive overview of poetry, covering rhyming schemes, themes, and genres. Her session was illuminating, detailing various poetic forms and their expressive potential.
The third day of the online workshop focused on creative writing objectives, purpose, and form. After that, there was a recap of the entire three-day topic, covering reading strategies, poetry analysis, prose analysis, and creative writing. Attendees also provided feedback, and the session concluded with appreciative feedback from Dr. Sister M. Saroj A.C., Head, Department of Education and vote of thanks by Astha.

Regular Outreach activities related to the environment, health, skill enhancement are being conducted by College Alumni and our active Alumni Ms. Devopriya Dutta, Social Activist & Environmentalist and Dr. Veena Singh head Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, AIIMS Patna I wish more alumni should come forward for such activities as well as outreach programs. We are in the process of bringing out an annual News letter this year
