Highlights of the Department

  • Students secure good ranks in Patna University. 6-9 girls are among the top ten in Patna University Exams.
  • Organizes students activities on a regular basis under the banner of Environment Conservation Outreach (ECO) task force.
  • Completed one UGC Major Project and two Minor Projects.

Activities

A guest lecture was organized by Department of Zoology on 26.11.2021. It was attende by 150 UG and PG students.

Department of Zoology organized a Poster making Competition on the Vision, Mission and Core values of the college on 23.11.2021

The Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous) organised an online Parent-Teacher Meeting for the students of Semester III of both UG and PG courses on 30.10.2021 at 9.00 AM.
It was attended by all the students along with their parents.
The meeting started with Prof Shahla Yasmin, Head, Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College welcoming the parents.
A powerpoint presentation was given by Prof. Shahla Yasmin, Dr. Shobha Shrivastava and Dr. Sister Stuti AC, which gave an insight into the Vision, Mission Statement and Core Values of the college.
The Role of Parents in the development of their wards and Expectations from the students were also discussed.
A virtual tour of the department of Zoology was conducted.
Overall performance of the students of Semester III was discussed.
It was followed by feedback and suggestions from the parents.
All the teachers of the Department of Zoology, PWC attended the PTM.
The meeting concluded with expression of gratitude both by teachers and parents.

Freshers day programme in Department of Zoology was organized on 28.10.21 at 20.00 am

A two day orientation programme was conducted for tge Green audit team of Patna Women’s College on 21.10.21 & 22.10.21 by CEE, ADRI Patna

On the occasion of Wildlife Week, the Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, Patna University, Patna, organized an online Guest Lecture on the Topic: Conservation of Wildlife in Urban Landscape through Restoration on 08.10.2021.

The Guest Speaker was Dr. M. Shah Hussain, Scientist ( Ecologist), Biodiversity Parks Program, Centre for Environmental Management of Degraded Ecosystems (CEMDE), University of Delhi.

Prof. Shahla Yasmin, Head, Department of Zoology, PWC introduced the Speaker.
The program began with the College Anthem.

Dr. Hussain gave an excellent, elaborate and comprehensive presentation about how a degraded urban land can be restored by conservative strategies. He cited the example of how the barren and degraded land of Delhi Ridge has now totally changed and has been developed as Aravalli Biodiversity Park due to the collective and effective efforts of the Government and the Ecologists. Since 2004 to 2021, major change has taken place in places were conservation activities are taken up. Several Biodiversity Parks and small conservatories have been developed. Community participation, public awareness camps, Nature education camping, Research activities etc. all have helped in developing, restoring and conservation of the Wildlife in Urban Landscape. Ecological restoration is essential because it helps in rehabilitation, remediation, reclamation and restoration of Biodiversity.

Students of UG and PG and all the faculty members of Department of Zoology, PWC, attended the Guest Lecture.
Dr. Hussain interacted with the students and answered their queries. The Lecture was very informative and interesting.

The Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, organized an online Parent -Teacher Meet on 27.09.2021, for the students of first semester of both B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes.
The students and their parents got an opportunity to connect with the members of the faculty. The agenda of the meet was to acquaint the parents with the Vision, Mission Statement and the Core Values of the College.
Prof. Shahla Yasmin, Head, Department of Zoology, PWC, welcomed the Parents of both PG and UG Students.
The session of PG was conducted by Prof. Shahla Yasmin along with Dr. Neetu and Dr. Sumeet Ranjan.
The session of UG was conducted by Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Dr. Sapna Kumari, Dr. Anupma Kumari and Mr. Rajeev Ranjan.
The teachers discussed the Role of Parents in the growth of their wards and Expectations from the Students.
There was an interactive session with the Parents and the Students.
The Parents-Teacher Meet was concluded with a happy note.

Enrollment and oath taking by new members of ECO Task Force on the occasion of ozone day 2021. 192 students were enrolled

Zoology Department organized bird nest making contest. Nests will be put up on the campus on 16.9.21

On the occasion of Founders Day of Patna Women’s College, ECO Task Force organised a Tree Plantation Programme in its campus. Saplings of Mango, Jamun, Litchi. Cashew, Chikoo, Lemon, Papaya, Jack fruit, Drumticks, Anar, Hershringar, Mentha etc. were planted by the teachers of Department of Zoology, PWC in the campus.The programme was organised by Dr. Shahla Yasmin, Vice President, ECO Task Force and Dean of Science faculty. The teachers present were Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Dr. Sister Stuti AC, Dr. Sapna Kumari, Mr. Sumeet Ranjan and Mr. Rajiv Ranjan. Few ECO members and all the non-teaching staff members of Science Departments attended the Tree Plantation Programme.

The Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, Patna University, Patna organised an International Webinar on the Topic : Academic Career Trajectories for Biology Students on 11.06.20.

The Resource Person was Dr. Ankur Singh, Lecturer, Centre for Health Equity and Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Melbourne School Population and Global Health, Honorary(Fellow) Melbourne Dental School.

More than 200 students from various states of India actively participated in the Webinar. E-certificates were given to all the participants.

Dr. Sister Rashmi AC, Principal, Patna Women’s College,Autonomous addressed the participants of the Webinar. Prof.(Dr.) Shahla Yasmin, Head, Department of Zoology and Dean, Science Faculty, PWC introduced the Guest Speaker and the topic of the Webinar. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology.

World Environment Day .

On the occasion of World Environment Day, (05.06.20) the ECO Task Force, Patna Women’s College , Autonomous, Patna University , organised a Speech Contest on the Theme : ‘Positive and Negative Impacts of Lockdown on Environment,The Prize Winners are:

World Environment Day

  • Undergraduate students carry out research projects under the CPE and BSR schemes of UGC.
  • There are facilities for carrying out research for Ph.D.
  • Thrust areas for research are Ecotoxicology, Environment and Human Health and Histopathology.

PWC organized a DBT sponsored Guest Lecture on the Topic: ‘Water Crisis and its Conservation’ on 24.08.2019. The Speaker was Dr Gopal Sharma, Dy Director, ZSI, Patna, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Students of Botany, Chemistry, Geography and Zoology attended the Lecture.
