The Department of Fashion Designing, Patna Women’s College organised a guest lecture under students development programme on 17th April, 2025. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Suniti Bhagat, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, Patna Women’s College on the topic ‘Fibre Identification in Textile: A Scientific Approach Through Testing and Analysis’. Dr. Shemushi Madhu, HOD, Department of Fashion Designing welcome to the Guest Dr. Suniti Bhagat.
Dr. Bhagat explored the importance of fiber identification for Fashion Designing students in her lecture. Beyond theoretical knowledge, the lecture incorporated a significant practical component, allowing students to actively engage with various textile samples. A highlight of the session was a supervised burning test, where students carefully observed the burning characteristics, odor, and residue of different fibers – a crucial technique for preliminary identification. This hands-on experience complemented the expert insights into the properties and identification of both natural and synthetic fibers.
The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks by the coordinator Ms. Geetanjali Choudhary and a handmade painting was presented by the faculty Ms. Asha Pandey. This session was attended by all 33 PG and UG students of the Fashion Designing Department.
