TARK DEBATING SOCIETY, PATNA WOMEN’S COLLEGE

To preserve the tradition of discussion and debate, Tark Debating Society, Patna Women’s College was founded on September 4, 2019. With constant support and motivation of Dr.Sister.M.Rashmi A.C, principal of Patna Women’s College, the society was established by Dr.Richa, Assistant professor, Department of English, Patna Women’s College. It gives a platform for young minds to opine freely, speak their minds, develop the skill of human interaction and give volume to their thoughts. It gives priority to DIALOUGE in academia. Members of this society exchange dialogues, engage with the other and use it as a medium to seek a definite conclusion on any topic. The aim is to learn new, expand the horizon of our knowledge and collaborate with the hope to construct a better society.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

An Orientation Programme for the newly registered members of Tark Debating Society Dakhal Theatre Society was organised on 5th August, 2023 in Mother Veronica Hall

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

To preserve the tradition of debate, Tark Debating Society organised  an orientation programme on September 4, 2019. The resource person was Dr.Shankar Dutt. It took place at 11:30 am in Carmel Hall, Patna Women’s College. 207 participants took part in this programme.

DEBATE COMPETITION

A debate competition was organised by Tark Debating Society on October 15, 2019. The topic of debate was “ Innovation disrupts classroom teaching”. Dr.Shahla Rehana and Dr.Kumar Dhananjay stood as judges of the competition. It took place at 1:00 pm in Room number 1 at Patna Women’s College. 45 members took part in the session.

INTERNATIONAL DEBATE AND PUBLIC SPEAKING WORKSHOP IN COLLABORATION WITH UNIVERSITIES OF OXFORD, CAMBRIDGE AND HARVARD

International Debate and Public Speaking Workshop took place on January 12,2020 in presence of two former world debating champions- Jordan Anderson and Heather Robinson. The resource person of the event was Ms. Swati Gautam. A debate competition took place on the topic- “Women’s equality should be about equality of opportunity not outcomes”. The event began at 09:30 am in Carmel Hall, Patna Women’s College. 250 members attended the session.

TARK LECTURE SERIES

LECTURE I

Tark Debating Society, Patna Women’s College began lecture series to enhance the horizon of knowledge, discussion, understanding and to stretch the capacity of engaging with the other.

The first lecture of Tark Lecture Series took place on January 29, 2020. The guest speaker was  Dr. Prashant Kumar, Assistant Professor, Malviya centre for Peace research, Banaras Hindu University. He delivered a lecture on  “ Peaceful Transformation of Conflict and Gandhi”. The lecture took place in the open air stage hall, Patna Women’s College at 12:00 pm. 350 members became a part of this session..

LECTURE 2

The second lecture of  Tark Lecture Series was organised by Tark Debating Society on February 13, 2020. The guest speaker was Dr. Anuj Lugun, Poet and Assistant Professor of Hindi, Central University of South Bihar. He delivered a lecture on “ Prem ki Vastavikta”. It took place in the open air stage hall, Patna Women’s College at 12:30 pm.  600 members took part in the session.

LECTURE 3

The third lecture of  Tark Lecture Series was organised on June 3, 2020. The guest speaker was Professor Kamlanand Jha, Department of Hindi, Aligarh Muslim University. He delivered a lecture on “Youth as Crowd”. It took place at 11:00 am in online mode via zoom. 170 members attended the session.

LECTURE 4

The fourth lecture of Tark Lecture Series took place on September 8, 2020. The guest speaker was Dr. Kavita Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Central University of South Bihar. She delivered a lecture on  “History and Politics of Women’s Education.” The event took place at  2:00pm in online mode via zoom. 190 members attended the lecture.

LECTURE 5

The fifth lecture of  Tark lecture series took place on December 5, 2020. The guest speaker was Dr. Sujata Chokherbali, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, University of Delhi. She delivered a lecture on  “Feminism for Youth”. It took place in online mode via zoom at 5:00pm. 230 members joined the session.

LECTURE 6

The sixth lecture of  Tark Lecture series took place on February 17,2021. The guest speaker was Dr. Shreya Bhattacharji, Associate professor, Department of English Studies, Central University of Jharkhand. She delivered a lecture on “Love as Liberation”. It took place at 5:00 pm in online mode via zoom. 240 members attended the session.

MOCK EVENT ORGANISED BY TARK GOONJ, TARK PARICHARCHA, TARK DALIL

Tark Debating Society established three new platforms on June 19,2021 namely Tark Goonj (poetry recitation platform), Tark Paricharcha (platform to review books, songs, movies etc.) and Tark Dalil (platform to debate).

On the occasion of Pride Month event in June, 2021, a mock event took place on June 28, 2021 . It took place at 5:00pm in online mode via zoom. 21 members became a part of the event.

PRIDE MONTH EVENT

This event was organised by the members of Tark Goonj on  June 29,2021. It comprised of discussion on LGBTQIA+ community and certain  texts such as “Yaarana” and “Queeristan”. It took place in online mode via zoom. 24 participants joined the session.

SUHANA SAFAR : A TRIBUTE TO DILIP KUMAR

Suhana Safar: A tribute to Dilip Kumar was a dedicatory event to one of the late finest actors of the Indian Hindi cinema:  Dilip Kumar. This event was organised by the members of  Tark Debating Society, Patna Women’s College in collaboration with Dakhal Theatre Society, Patna Women’s College . It took place on July 30,2021 at 5:00 pm in online mode via zoom. The guest speakers of the event were Dr.Sahar Rahman, Divyalalita Gautam and Dr. Abdul Basil Hamidi.

ANUPRIYA’S CANVAS

Anupriya’s Canvas was a dedicatory event to cherish the paintings created by one of the finest artists – Anupriya. It took place on August 10,2021 at 5:00 pm in online mode via zoom. Students gave their interpretations on her creative art work. The guest speaker on this occasion was Dr. Kavita Singh.

DEBATE COMPETITION

A debate competition was organised by Tark Debating Society on January 6,2022. Topic of debate was “Raising the minimum age of marriage for girls to 21 years could prove to be an effective pill of women empowerment”. Dr.Amitabh Ranjan and Divyalalita Gautam stood as judges of the competition. It took place at 12:00pm in Carmel Hall, Patna Women’s College. ____ members took part in the session.

EK AZAD SAFAR

Ek Azad Safar: Celebrating Kamla Bhasin organised by Tark Debating Society was a dedicatory event to an Indian feminist and social activist, Kamla Bhasin. It took place on March 25,2022 at 5:00 pm in online mode via zoom. The guest speakers in this event were Dr. Richa, Fiza Darakshan and Divyalalita Gautam.

Debate competition

Tark Debate Society organized a Debate competition on 9th May 2023, in room no. 24 from 1:25 p.m., Patna Women’s College. The topic for the debate was “Bollywood is heading towards gender equality”. There were 8 participants in total, four who were in favor of the motion, and four who were against it. Shailey, Akanksha and Pushpangana were the winners. The debate was followed by a discussion amid the participants and with the judges. The Judges for the Competition were Dr. Prabhat Jha, and Dr. Richa , assistant professors, Department of English .

DAKHAL THEATRE SOCIETY, PATNA WOMEN’S COLLEGE

Since “Theatre is a reflection of the society” and the show must go on, Dakhal Theatre Society, Patna Women’s College was founded on September 27,2019. With the support and motivation of Dr.Sister.M.Rashmi A.C, principal of Patna Women’s College, this society was established by Dr.Richa, Assistant professor, Department of English, Patna Women’s College. It aims at “theatrical intervention of youth concerned with social, political and economic issues prevalent in our society.” It is not simply a platform to act rather a medium to interact with a lot many unsung voices and their stories. Young artists seek to catch live expressions of the audience and use their art to contribute in the construction of a better society.

TWO DAYS WORKSHOP

I: TWO DAYS WORKSHOP FOR THEATRE SOCIETY

The members of Dakhal Theatre Society, Patna Women’s College participated in a workshop held on September 27-28,2019. It was based on the theme of “oppressed and forum theatre”. The resource person was “Gaurav Saini” – a theatre teacher, actor, director and filmmaker in India and United States.

II: A PLAY COMPETITION ON “WOMEN’S WORLD”

Dakhal Theatre Society, Patna Women’s College conducted a play competition on March 5,2020 on the theme “Women’s World”. Competition took place between eight different departments in the college. Mona Jha and Soma Chokroborty stood as judges on this occasion. It took place in the open air stage hall, Patna Women’s College with the participation of six hundred students in the audience.

III: SUHANA SAFAR : A TRIBUTE TO DILIP KUMAR

Suhana Safar: a tribute to Dilip Kumar was a dedicatory event to one of the finest actors in the Indian Hindi cinema : Dilip Kumar. The event was organised by the members of Tark Debating Society, Patna Women’s College in collaboration with the members of Dakhal Theatre Society, Patna Women’s College. It took place on July 30,2021 at 5:00 pm in online mode via zoom. The guest speakers of the event were Dr. Sahar Rahman, Divyalalita Gautam and Dr. Abdul Basil Hamidi.

MONO ACT COMPETITION

IV: MONO ACT COMPETITION

Dakhal Theatre Society, Patna Women’s College conducted a mono act competition on March 8,2021. The theme of the competition was “Women as Survivors”. Ten students from different departments took part into it. Ms Yosha Singh and Ms Zareen Fatima stood as the judges. It  took place at 11:00 am in the open air stage hall at Patna  Women’s College.

ONE DAY WORKSHOP

V: ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON “BODY LANGUAGE AND IMPROV”

Dakhal Theatre Society, Patna Women’s College organised a workshop on “Body language and Improv” on August 20,2022. Special guest of the event was Dr Muniba Sami and the resource persons were Dr Richa and Dr Prabhat Jha. Thirty students actively participated in the workshop. It took place between 10:00am-3:00pm in Carmel Hall, Patna Women’s College.

VIEW MORE

On May 10,2023, Dakhal Theatre Society, Patna Women’s College organised a theatre workshop on “Mental Health”. The resource persons were Dr Richa, coordinator of Dakhal, Theatre Society and an Assistant professor in the Department of English, Patna Women’s College and Dr Prabhat Jha , Assistant professor, Department of English, Patna Women’s College. It involved a series of activities related to the cause and consequences of one’s mental health through enactment which led to the development of skills like communication, observation, self- appreciation and appreciation for others. It took place between 1:00pm-4:30pm at Mother Veronica Hall, Patna Women’s College. It was successfully conducted with the participation of twenty-five students altogether.
