Patna Women’s College (PWC), the first College for women in Bihar, founded in 1940, is a premier Institution of the State. The 70 year old College with its glorious past had an ‘A’ grade at its accreditation in 2004 by NAAC. And again, at its re-accreditation by NAAC in 2010, PWC received an ‘A’ grade. In 2004, UGC accorded ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ (CPE) status to PWC.The Government of Bihar declared PWC as a Religious Minority Institution on 25th July, 2007.

The Department of Education is one of the Star Departments of PWC. Keeping in mind the high demand for teacher training courses, PWC took the bold step in 2005 to apply to NCTE to introduce B.Ed. and to start the Department of Education as a self-financing course. The department is recognised by Eastern Regional Committee of NCTE vide order no. & date: ERC / 7 – 57.5.16 / 2005 / 1928, dated 21.06.2005.The College officially introduced and inaugurated the B.Ed. programme and the Department of Education on 8th April, 2006.
