The Department of Physics organised a One-day workshop on the topic : “Crystallography: Hands-on-Training on X-ray diffraction” on  February 11 2025, in collaboration with Vigyan Club. A guest lecture was conducted by Keynote Speaker Dr. Judith Shackleton, University of Manchester. The event started at 10 am with a melodious welcome song and then the welcome address by Dr. Riekshika Sanwari, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Patna Women’s College. After then, Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, PG Department of Physics, Patliputra University, addressed the gathering. Then after a token of gratitude for the resource person was presented by Dr. kavita Verma, Head, Department of Physics, Patna Women’s College, Patna.
Then the first session started on which the students learnt about Crystallography, the crystal lattice, Bravais lattice, Bragg’s law and the basics of X-ray diffraction.
The second session started at 12 pm with the Introduction to X-ray Powder Diffraction and preparation of samples, the precautions and the X-ray Powder Diffraction of some of the crystals. The session was insightful. The students achieved the ability to analyse previously unanalyzable crystal types and more understanding on how to use XRD.
At the end vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Chandni Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Patna Women’s College. The session was attended by the faculty members of Department of Physics, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous namely Dr. Rohit Singh, Mr. Dharmendra Rai, Dr. Lalit Kumar Sharma and Dr. Manishi Puja and a few members of A N College, Dr. Ruchi Rashmi, Dr. Md.
