Webinar on the theme “Statistical Literacy for a Data-Driven Society”
On June 28, 2025, the Department of Statistics, in collaboration with the Department of Data Science and Analytics, Patna Women’s College, organized a webinar on the theme “Statistical Literacy for a Data-Driven Society” to mark National Statistics Day in honour of Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis. The event began with a virtual lamp lighting and welcome song, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Shobha Srivastava, Dean, Faculty of Science. Dr. Moon, Head, Department of Statistics, introduced the webinar theme, emphasizing the importance of statistical awareness. Three scholarly sessions were conducted by eminent speakers: Prof. Dr. Arun Kumar Sinha discussed the evolution of statistics and the theme “75 Years of Survey Sampling”; Prof. Dr. Amarendra Mishra highlighted the need for statistical literacy and its role in education; and Dr. Arun Kumar Kaushik spoke on the synergy between statistics and data science. Over 65 students from various disciplines participated in the event. Dr. Priyadarshani Singh, Head, Department of Data Science and Analytics, delivered the vote of thanks.
The webinar witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 65 students representing various academic streams, reflecting the growing interest in statistics and data science among young learners.
The entire event was thoughtfully coordinated under the leadership of Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A. C. Principal, Patna Women’s College. The organizing committee consist of Dr. Moon as Convenor, Dr. Priyadarshini as Co-Convenor, with Ms. Monika Rashmi and Ms. Nishtha Bhardwaj serving as Organizing Secretary and Joint Organizing Secretary, respectively
