As a part of Vigyan Utsav, 2025, to celebrate the National Science Day, the Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College organized the Sci-Story Telling Competition: Discovery Quest, a unique initiative to promote science storytelling among students, on 25th February, 2025. The theme of the event was The Eureka Moments in Science: Breakthrough in Scientific Innovations. The event saw enthusiastic participation of 18 students, from different colleges of Patna, who showcased their creative storytelling skills. The participants were from Darbhanga House, Science College, Patna College, B.N.College, Rajendra College, Chapra, A.N. College, J.D. Women’s College, Aryabhatt Knowledge University, and Patna Women’s College.

The competition was judged by an esteemed panel of Judges consisting of Professor Ajit Kumar Singh, Head (Retd), PG Department of Zoology, Patliputra University, Prof. Shahla Yasmin, PG Department of Zoology, Patna University and Prabhat Jha, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Patna Women’s College. The judges were impressed by the innovative ideas and creative expressions presented by the participants.
The participants presented captivating sci-stories on a wide range of topics, including: The fascinating tale of the microwave invention, groundbreaking discovery of Heliobacter pylori, the bacteria causing ulcers, the intricate workings of the brain’s memory center, the revolutionary discovery of X-ray technology, the ongoing quest to uncover the mysteries of dark matter, the fundamental principles of Archimedes’ buoyancy theory, the discovery of tungsten and its versatile applications, the CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing tool and its potential to transform medicine, the lifesaving technology of cardiac pacemakers, etc.

Prize winners were:

  • First Prize – Shubhangini Ranjan, UG Zoology, PWC
  • Second Prize – Riya, History, Darbhanga House, P.U. and Sweta Murmu, PG Zoology, P.U.
  • Third Prize – Adiba Khanam, UG Zoology

The Welcome address was delivered by Dr. Neetu, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, PWC and the in-charge of the event was Dr. Sapna Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, PWC. The whole programme was smoothly conducted under the supervision of Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Dean, Faculty of Science and Head, Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College.
