A Workshop was conducted on Menstrual Health
The Department of Communicative English and Media Studies at Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, organized an interactive session on “Creating Effective Media Campaigns for Menstrual Health,” led by Surbhi Kumari, the Gender and Communication Lead at SumArth. The workshop commenced with an introduction to media campaigns and their objectives, focusing specifically on menstrual health awareness, engagement, advocacy, and action.
During the session, Ms. Surbhi Kumari debunked common myths surrounding menstruation and shared insights from her first media campaign titled “My First Period: Story of Beginning.” She highlighted the challenges women face in various villages across Bihar, where many are still compelled to use mud, ashes, and sand in place of sanitary pads. She explained the significance of the name SumArth, where “Sum” denotes addition and “Arth” means money. She also highlighted that she has conducted over 200 workshops across Bihar, raising awareness about menstrual health. She also emphasized the importance of involving boys in the conversation to find more effective solutions.The session was highly interactive, concluding with a question-and-answer round. The program ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Ananya.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Tauseef Hassan, Head of the Department of Communicative English and Media Studies, along with Assistant Professors Ms. Runa, Mr. Frank Krishner, and Mr. Amitabh Ranjan.
