Under the National Lecture Series with MoU colleges, G.S.S.D.G.S Khalsa College (Autonomous), Patiala, Punjab hosted a collaborative lecture on “Translation and Culture” on February 24th 2025.
The resource person of the day was Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Associate Professor and Dean Languages and Head, P.G. Department of English and Foreign languages G.S.S.D.G.S Khalsa College, Patiala.
The students of PG Semester 2, department of English, Patna Women’s College, attended the lecture. The students from Sophia Girls College (Ajmer), Kristu Jayanti College (Bengaluru), and St. Xavier’s College (Jaipur)also joined the lecture virtually.
Dr. Kaur explored the importance of translation in bridging cultural gaps, preserving knowledge, and fostering globalization and inclusivity. She highlighted the intricate relationship between language and culture, demonstrating how each shapes the other. The lecture also delved into notable translation errors and their impact on culture, history, and communication. Dr. Kaur specifically addressed mistranslations in literature, discussing relevant works and their implications. The session concluded with an interactive quiz, reinforcing the key concepts discussed. The event successfully brought together students across India, promoting academic exchange and a deeper understanding of the vital role translation plays in our world.
