Guest lecture on ‘Doordarshan day’

On 15th september 2023, Department of Mass communication, Patna Women’s College organised a guest lecture on ‘Doordarshan day’. The topic of the lecture was ‘Doordarshan Day: Carrying the legacy since 1959’. Mr Salman Haider, Deputy Director of News for Prasar Bharti, spoke as the session’s special guest. The virtual session began with Ms. Roma, HoD, Mass Communication, giving a warm introduction to the guest speaker.
Mr. Haider gave detailed information about the history and development of Doordarshan. He also shared in detail about the challenges faced by Doordarshan in its early stage.
He discussed Doordarshan’s relevance and legitimacy while also stating that it is the only channel that is not driven by TRP or commercialism but rather has its own moral principles that it has upheld throughout its existence.
He emphasised how Doordarshan is still relevant in the modern world. He lauded Doordarshan for being an independent and unbiased media platform that provides education, knowledge, and entertainment to the nation and abroad while highlighting the state of the modern media landscape.
Under graduate students from all the semesters and post graduate diploma students of Mass Communication were present during the session.
The session was concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Assistant Professor, Ms. Aprajita Pathak.
The session was attended by all the faculty members of the Department including Mr. Ajay Kumar Jha, Mr. Prashant Ravi, Ms. Ankita, Ms. Divya Gautam & Mr. Gaurav Aranya.
