Department of English organised a poetry competition ‘I WRITE, I RECITE’ on the theme, “Peace and Justice” on 5th October 2023, in Mother Veronica Hall, Patna Women’s College. This is an annual activity of the department of English that gives a platform to its students who are budding poets. The theme of the competition emphasised the importance and role of poetry in establishing peace with justice. Twenty three students of both UG and PG across semesters recited their self composed poems on the topic. The poems dealt with the varied dimensions and experiences of conflict, injustice and strife. The need for a just and peaceful world was expressed.
The participants were evaluated by Dr Muniba Sami, Former Associate Professor, Department of English, Patna University and Dr. Richa, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Patna College.
Amna Ali of MA semester I, Sakshi Singh of BA semester V and Samridhi Raj of BA semester V bagged the first, second and third Position respectively.
Before the results were announced, the judges gave their feedback on the performance of the participants. Dr Muniba Sami stressed on the need of justice and peace in the world more than ever. She was impressed by the quality of the poems that were recited by the students. Dr. Richa gave tips to the participants on the techniques of poetry writing and recited a couple of her poems.
The Head of the Department, Dr. Sahar Rahman announced the results and congratulated the participating students and encouraged the aspiring poets to nurture their craft and spread their message of peace and justice.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Shahla Rehana, Associate Professor, Department of English and Dr. Prabhat Jha, Assistant Professor, Department of English. Students of the department moderated the event.
