Abstract : The present paper examines the role of some importantsocio-economic-developmental variables as predictors for the crime incidences against property in different districts of Bihar. For quantifying the weight of different predictors, the multiple regression (MR) model has been attempted along with the technique of dominance analysis and commonality analysis. For developing the MR model several socio-economic-developmental variables were examined and the best subsets of predictors were selected usingR2,
adjusted R2& Mallows Cp criteria. The data contain a suppression effect which has perhaps not been discussed so far in any heuristic example present in any of the cited research papers, though the ideology of suppressor variable devised has been fruitfully utilized.
Keywords : Adjusted R2, Mallow’s Cp coefficient, Suppressor Variable, Suppression effect, Dominance Analysis, Dominance Weights, Commonality Analysis, Commonality coefficients.
