Beat the Heat with Gond Katira: Beverage Making Competition

On 19th April 2025, Zaika- the Cookery Club in collaboration with Department of Home Science organized a Beverage Making Competition with the theme “Beat the Heat with Gond Katira”. The event took place in Room No. 28 at 10:30 am and showcased the flavor ingenuity of participating groups.
11 groups with total 18 participants of different departments (AI&ML, BMC and H. Sc.) took part in the competition. Each group prepared and presented a unique beverage along with complementary snacks, ranging from traditional Indian drink like Sattu to modern Iced tea.
The panel of judges included Dr. Sunita Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science and Dr. Nisha Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science. The dishes were evaluated based on- taste, texture, flavor, presentation and nutritional value.
Participants prepared a wide variety of beverages such as Aam Panna, Grapes shikanji, Mango iced tea, and Beetroot-Pomegranate drink. Various snacks included Cucumber boat, Chana chaat, Masala Makhana and Suji bites.
Following careful evaluation, the judges announced the winners of the competition:-
1st position: Group No. 9 – Tapasya and MahiraHaque (Almond bilss smoothie &Sooji bites).
2nd position: Group No. 5 – Muskan Kumari and Alisha Sharma (Grape escape & Kesar-Badam shake).
3rd position: Group No. 10 – Rashmi Kumari and Sadhana Kumari (Aam panna and Sattu drink).
In their feedback judges highlighted the nutritional benefits of the star ingredient Gond Katira and importance of presentation. The event was a great success and it provided a platform for students to showcase their culinary flair and inspired many to experiment with creative and healthy drink options.
