On the occasion of World Water Day (22.03.2023), Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, Patna University organized a Guest lecture on 23.03.2023 to spread awareness regarding Water conservation. Resource Person of this Guest Lecture was Dr. Gopal Sharma, Scientist E and Joint Director, Zoological Survey of India, Patna, Bihar. Topic of the Guest Lecture was Water Conservation. The Programme started with welcome speech delivered by Dr. Shobha Shrivastava, Head, Department of Zoology and Member Secretary Academic Council. Dr. Gopal Sharma explained details of water availability and reasons of water crisis. He also emphasized that encroachment of wetlands, ponds and lakes are major issues of concern. Turning of Urban areas into concrete jungles has largely prevented Groundwater recharge through seepage of water. His presentation included several ancient irrigation techniques such as Rahat, paeen etc which helped in wise use of water in irrigation with less water loss. This was a very interactive and informative session and everyone enjoyed it. Compering was done by Komal, M.Sc Semester II and Vote of Thanks was proposed by Vandana Kumari, M.Sc Semester II. All the teachers and students of Department of Zoology attended this Guest Lecture.
