Brief Report:

The Department of Mass Communication, Patna Women’s College has organised a two-day webinar on “Challenges and Opportunities in Media” on 27th and 28th of July, 2021. Day one of the digital event was conducted on Tuesday via Zoom application from 11 a.m. onwards. Ms. Minati Chaklanavis, Head, Department of Mass Communication, in her introductory speech emphasised the power of pen and its significance and relevance in today’s time. Professor Dwivedi in his address highlighted the imperative role that mass media has played during the pandemic by providing a unified platform for all public health communications, comprehensive healthcare education guidelines and robust social distancing strategies while still maintaining social connections. He highlighted the importance of Media Literacy along with the positive outlook of the media coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic during geographical lockdowns, extended quarantines, and financial and social hardships faced by migrants and depressed sections of the society. He commended the media’s significant contribution to the Covid-19 infodamics.

On Day 2, Ms. Sweta explained about the role of regional media during COVID times. She focused on how it helped to mitigate the effects during those times.
