Brief Report:
A hands-on-workshop was held in the Department of Computer Applications (BCA) on the Protocol for Protein Blast. In the workshop, the students of II-year, Department of Computer Applications (BCA) learnt three methods including Clustal Omega, Mega 6.06 and one by online search engine (NCBI). With these processes Phylogenetic Tree Formation, Protein blast, Nucleotide blast, etc. were done. It was concluded that the sequencing of genes is different from species to species. For example, it was explained that there are almost 80% similarities between humans and rats. With the help of these experiments and calculations, medicines can be manufactured or nature and variations among species can be studied. The workshop was organized to demonstrate the application of Information Technology in the field of Biotechnology.
