NATIONAL LIBRARIAN’S DAY CELEBRATION
Central Library Patna Women’s College celebrated National Librarian’s day on 12th August 2024 to commemorate the 132nd birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972), who is considered as Father of library and information science in India. Sister Jincy A.C. Superior, Avila Convent, the librarian,faculty members, all library staff and students were present on this auspicious occasion.The librarian welcomed all the guests and explained the life story of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, his achievement, services and contributions in the library field. The programme began with floral tribute and garland to the portrait of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. All the staff members and students of Patna Women’s college paid homage and tribute to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. The principal extended her best wishes to all the library staff on this special day. To encourage the students for maximum and efficient use of the library resources, services and facilities, “BEST LIBRARY USER AWARD” has been started from this year. Riyanjali Kumari from Geography Department Session (2023-2027) is selected as the Best Library User for the academic year 2023-2024. The Award was presented by Sister Jincy. The librarian proposed the vote of thanks. She extended thanks to the Principal Patna Women’s College, all the guests, staff members and students.
About Central Research Laboratory (CRL)
Capacity Building Programme on “Basic Experiments”
The Central Research Laboratory of Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, organized a Capacity Building Programme on “Basic Experiments” for school children of classes X and XII of Patna on 29th April, 2023.
35 students, both girls and boys, from economically poor background from different schools of Patna like, Miller Secondary School, Bankipur School, St.Joseph’s School and St.Xavier’s School participated actively. It was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Sumeet Ranjan and Dr. Sister M.Stuti A.C, Assistant Professors of the Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College.
Students performed experiments which were from their syllabus. They studied plant cells from onion peel and identified Lactobacillus bacteria from curd. They also learnt the names of glassware used in science laboratories. They were excited to see and handle microscope and see different equipment. All the students were enthusiastic to learn more. This type of exposure enhanced their scientific temper. The programme proved to be highly useful and helped the student to learn by doing.

A Central Research Laboratory is of utmost importance in any academic institution where the state-of-the-art analytical and high-priced equipment are kept together at a single location and are handled by qualified personnel to provide scientific and technical services for supporting research carried out by UG, PG, PhD and other project students. It strengthens the research-relevant infrastructure of basic science and technology. This kind of facility represents a key commitment for preserving and raising the efficiency of research to the level of international standards.
The Central Research Laboratory (CRL) was established in October 2014 with the financial support given by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Govt. of Bihar. The idea being that high priced instruments which may not be available to young budding scientists and researchers in individual laboratories which can be made available at the Central Research Laboratory. In this connection, the independent laboratory, the CRL of Patna Women’s College has the most modern and sophisticated equipment to users of the ever-expanding number of UG and PG students and researchers with various needs.
Our future endeavor will be to make this facility available to other academic and research institutions, industries and organizations in the neighborhood.
