Abstract: Parabens are most commonly used preservatives in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and industrial products. The use of parabens in cosmetics as preservatives was considered safe but recent studies suggest that they are harmful. The present work was a preliminary investigation on the presence of the preservative parabens in commonly used skin care products and to study their antimicrobial effects.
It was concluded that many skin care products use paraben as preservative and they show antimicrobial activity against yeast. However, to know about their harmful effects, further research is needed.
