The Effect of Anxiety and Depression on Academic Performance of College Students

Abstract :Anxiety, stress and depression are the factors that can destroy a student’s carrier. Our aim is to estimate the effect of anxiety and depression on academic performance of college students. With the help of DASS-21 (Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale) score of anxiety, stress and Depression were calculated. In the sample of 123 students 8.9% students are facing extremely severe stress, 43.1% students are facing extremely severe anxiety and 52.8% students are facing extremely severe depression. Insomnia
Severity Index (ISI) to detect cases of insomnia in a population-based sample and to evaluate treatment response in a clinical sample. (Charles, M. M. et. aL, 2011). Apart from that we analyze symptoms related to insomnia through ISI scale and students self esteem were estimated using the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale.
