Global Climate Change Week

Student’s Environment Club ‘SRISHTI’, observed a week long ‘Global Climate Change Week’ from 12th October to 18th October, 2022. The week-long activities included various participatory activities such as cleanliness drive, menstrual hygiene awareness campaign, poster making competition and T-shirt painting competition.

On 12th October, 2022, there was a ‘Cleanliness Drive’ programme in the premises of Patna Women’s College. This initiative is to sensitize Patna Women’s College family and community towards cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene through a week-long focus on participatory activities aimed at raising awareness and inspiring behavioural change towards global climate change. Dr. Amrita Choudhary, Coordinator, IQAC who conducted the pledge of ‘Srishti’, which was enthusiastically taken up by the members of the Srishti Club. Nearly 230 students participated in a Human Chain to create an awareness among masses regarding cleanliness under ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign. The students also took an initiative to clean the PWC campus. The whole programme was supervised by Ms. Meenakshi Mishra, Coordinator, Srishti Club and Assistant Professor, Department of Geography. Dr. Debjani Sarkar Ghose, Head, Department of Geography, Dr. Amrita Choudhary, Coordinator, IQAC, Ms. Aishwarya, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography were also present during the programme. The whole programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal and Dr. Sister M. Tanisha A.C., Vice- Principal, Patna Women’s College.

On 13th October, 2022 Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign under Global Climate Change Week was organized. The resource person of the event was Miss. Samiksha Sinha, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Patna Women’s College, where she enlightened the students on the importance of Menstrual Hygiene. She emphasized that menstruation be it a natural part of the female reproductive cycle are considered as taboos and myths. She stated that creating awareness and openness is one of the most effective ways to help teach women how to properly manage their menstrual hygiene. She focused on how awareness towards menstruation is necessary in today’s society. She mentioned the 5 P’S of Period,i.e. products , palms, pain, paper, and period between your periods and said that a person should be mentally hygienic. She concluded by saying: Stay Hygienic Stay Period Positive. A total of 200 students attended the session. The entire session was moderated by Simpi Kumari, Environment and Discipline Secretary. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Kajal Kumari, Jt. Environment and Discipline Secretary, Patna Women’s College.

On 17th October, 2022, display of ‘Poster making competition’ and ‘T-shirt painting competition’ under the ‘Global climate change week’ was done. The theme for the poster making competition was ‘Let us change against climate change’, and the theme for T-shirt painting competition was ‘Our climate is changing, why aren’t we?’. There was a total of 35 students who participated in the competition.

The eminent judges for the competition were Mr. Alok John, Dean, National, International Collaboration & Consultancy Services, Patna Women’s College, Dr. Devina Krishna, Asst. Prof, Dept. of English, Ms. Pooja Kumari, Asst. Prof. Dept. of Commerce. During the display of the poster making competition and T-shirt painting competition, participants explained about their perspective on the theme to the jury members.

Dr. Devina Krishna, Asst. Prof, Dept. of English, addressed the gathering by congratulating the participants for their active participation. Further, Dr. Debjani Sarkar Ghosh, Head, Department of Geography announced the results for the poster making competition and T-shirt painting competition and congratulated the participants.

Concluding day of the 7 days week long programme ended with a ‘Cleanliness Drive Programme’. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Meenakshi Mishra, Coordinator, Srishti Club and Assistant Professor Department of Geography where she congratulated all the members of Srishti Club for being a harbinger of sustainable climate friendly society and she encouraged the members to participate in upcoming events. Ms. Aishwarya, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography was also present during the programme. The whole programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal and Dr. Sister M. Tanisha A.C., Vice- Principal, Patna Women’s College. The programme was moderated by Paridhi Sinha. The vote of thanks was then proposed by Aaisha Raza, Cultural Secretary, Student Council, 2022, Patna Women’s College.
