On the occasion of International Biodiversity Day, ECO Task Force and Shristi Club, of Patna Women’s College in collaboration with Tarumitra, Patna, organized a Poster Making Competition along with an enlightening session on 22.05.2023.
The Chief Guest for the event was Shri Shashikant Kumar (IFS) DFO, Park Division, Patna. The special Invitee for the event was Father Robert Athikal, Founder, Tarumitra, and the Resource person for the event was Col. Amit Sinha, Commanding Officer, 1 Bihar Girls Battalion, NCC.
The event commenced with the sowing of seeds followed up by the ECO Task Force anthem. The event proceeded with the offering of Saplings as a token of gratitude to the guests.
Soon after this Dr. Shobha Srivastava, Vice President , ECO Task Force and Head, Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College, addressed the gathering and emphasized the issues that affect Biodiversity. She also discussed the important measures that need to be taken for the conservation of Biodiversity and threw light on the importance of Sustainable Development.
Resource Person, Col. Amit Sinha, then addressed the gathering and illuminated the audience with a PowerPoint presentation accompanied by self-captured pictures on the topic ’Biodiversity in Bihar’, which depicted the Biodiversity of various areas of Bihar. He encouraged the students to protect and preserve the biodiversity and said it is not just one day of celebration rather one should take interest in the conservation of Biodiversity as a hobby. He also brought attention to the Stakeholders who immensely contribute in preservation of the Environment.
Ms. Meenakshi Mishra, Coordinator, Srishti Club then, enlightened the audience with the various institutional initiatives such as landscaping and Biodiversity Conservation, Green policy, Biodiversity Audit ,Water Audit, and Energy Audit taken for the conservation of the environment by Patna Women’s College and took the audience on a virtual tour of the College’s Green Campus through a PPT presentation. She also mentioned the fact that more than 22% of the entire college campus is under green cover. Further, Father Robert Athikal addressed the arena where he appreciated and acknowledged the green initiatives taken by the college since the establishment of ECO Task Force, a student body, in 1992.
The Chief Guest, Shri Shashikant Kumar, further addressed the audience and shared his life experiences and how he developed an interest in the field of biodiversity. Altogether 23 groups participated in the competition in which the winners were code 23, 10, and 21 respectively.
The judges for the competition were Dr. Debjani Sarkar Ghose, Head Department of Geography; Dr. Pinky Prasad, Head Department of Botany and Dr. Jaya Philip, Head Department of Microbiology. The event concluded with the Srishti Anthem followed by the Environment protection pledge by one of the NCC Cadets. The Vote Of Thanks was proposed by Tejaswi Kumari, Environment and Discipline Secretary, Student Council 2023-24, Patna Women’s College. Ms. Meenakshi Mishra, Co-ordinator of Srishti Club, Assistant Professor, of the Department of Geography moderated the event. The entire event took place under the guidance of Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal, Patna Women’s College.
Ms Devopriya, Tarumitra; Dr. Debjani Sarkar Ghose, Head Department of Geography; Dr. Bindhu Rani, Secretary of Lion Club of Harmony; Ms. Shweta, President Inner Wheel Club, Patna, Dr. Amrita Chaudhary, Coordinator IQAC, Assistant Professor Department of Geography; Dr. Vinita Priyadarshi, Head, Department of Political Science and Faculty members from the Department of Zoology and Geography, were also present in the event.
The programme was attended by large number of students of Patna Women’s College.
