The Department of Biotechnology at Patna Women’s College organized the International Conference on “Strategies, Opportunities, and Challenges in Bioscience Research and Entrepreneurship” (ICSOCBRE-2024) on April 4th and 5th, 2024. The conference aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among researchers, academics, and entrepreneurs in the field of biosciences. This conference has accomplished significant interest from academics and researchers, as evidenced by the participation of 176 registrants from renowned universities and colleges across the nation. The submitted papers cover a wide range of topics aligned with the conference’s focal themes, including Agriculture & Plant Sciences, Environmental Biotechnology, Infectious Biology & Therapeutics, Recent Advances in Life Science Research, and Bioinformatics and AI: Revolutionizing Biostatistics and Life Sciences.
The conference began with a welcome address by Respected Principal Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Patna Women’s College, Autonomous. During the inaugural session Guest of Honour, Dr. T.S. Lokeshwari, Retd. Professor from SRIHER, Chennai, delivered a talk highlighting various opportunities in biosciences for young academics.
Keynote speakers Dr. Abhinav Dey, Associate, RMGlobal, New York, USA & Ex Principal Scientist Micro Cures Inc.: Bronx, NY, US, and Dr. Vahab Ali, Scientist F, RMRIMS-ICMR, Agam Kuan, Patna, Bihar, shared their expertise during the plenary session. Dr. Dey emphasized career opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector, while Dr. Ali discussed potential therapeutic avenues for Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) through his research on the cysteine biosynthetic pathway in Leishmania donovani.
The conference featured three parallel technical sessions chaired by Dr. Bhubaneswar Pradhan, Assistant Professor, Division of Agricultural Biotechnology, School of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur, Kolkata; Dr. Arun Kumar, Senior Scientist, Mahavir Cancer Sansthan, Patna; and Dr. Sujeet Kumar, Principal, School of Special Allied Health Science, DMIHER (Deemed University), Nagpur, covering Agriculture & Plant Sciences, Environmental Biotechnology and Infectious Diseases, and Recent Advances in Life Science Research and Bioinformatics & AI, respectively. The conference provided attendees with diverse insights and opportunities to engage with cutting-edge research in biosciences, paving the way for future collaborations and advancements in the field.
The second day commenced with a plenary session featuring keynote speaker Dr. Farzana Liakath Ali, Staff Scientist Onco-therapeutics Development Section of Hematology/Oncology, University of Chicago, USA who discussed the therapeutic role of Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) and Extracellular Vehicles (EVs) in reproductive medicine. The Keynote Speaker Dr. Seshadri, Coordinator, Technology Business Incubator, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India, emphasized the need for biotechnology entrepreneurship to achieve economic growth and sustainable development goals in India.
The valedictory session was graced by Prof. Sajjad Karim, Centre for Excellence in Genomic Medicine Research, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The conference concluded successfully after two days of insightful discussions and presentations.
Dr. Arti Kumari, Convener of International Conference ICSOCBRE-2024, concluded this conference with her remarks and extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants, speakers, and contributors. Special thanks were extended to organizing team members Dr. Alok Ranjan, Organizing Secretary; Dr. Vivek Raj, Joint Organizing Secretary; Dr. Premlata Kumari, Treasurer; and Mr. Ashish Kumar, Staff, Department of Biotechnology, Patna Women’s College, along with the students of M.Sc. Biotechnology, for their dedicated efforts in managing the event.
