Brief Report-

 

The Department of Zoology and ECO Task Force at Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, Patna University, organized an Online Inter University Speech Contest on the topic “Healing of Ozone Layer: A Hope for Climate Action.” The contest was held under the Star College Scheme, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The primary objective was to raise awareness about the restoration of the ozone layer to 1980s levels worldwide by 2040, over the Arctic by 2045, and the Antarctic by 2066. A total of 33 students participated in the contest, representing two colleges from Patna University, one college from Patliputra University, one college from Kolkata University, and one college from Zazan University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This year marks the celebration of 35 years of the Vienna Convention and Global Ozone Layer Protection, and the participants highlighted the achievements of the Vienna Convention, Montreal Protocol, and global efforts in reducing ozone-depleting substances. Through collective decisions and actions, the ozone layer is healing. It is crucial to continue protecting the ozone layer for a brighter and more equitable future for humanity and future generations. The program was organized by Prof. Shahla Yasmin, Head of the Department of Zoology and Dean of the Faculty of Science at Patna Women’s College. The event was coordinated by Dr. Anupma Kumari, Mr. Sumeet Ranjan, and Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, faculty, Department of Zoology, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous.
