Zaika – The Cookery Club Inaugurates with a Successful No-Fire Cooking Competition
On 19th October 2024: Zaika, the Cookery Club at Patna Women’s College, marked its grand launch with a successful No-Fire Cooking Competition. Organized in collaboration with the Department of Home Science, the event took place in Room No. 35 at 11:00 A.M. and showcased the culinary creativity of participating groups.
The program commenced with an inaugural address by Ms. Safiqua Salman, President of Zaika, followed by an introduction to the club by Dr. Rosy Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, and Coordinator of Zaika club. In her speech, Dr. Rosy Kumari explained the significance Zaika, meaning “taste” in Urdu, “swad” in Hindi, and “flavour” in English, symbolizing the essence of culinary arts. She further outlined the club’s aims and objectives, emphasizing its mission to provide a platform for culinary enthusiasts to experiment, innovate, and showcase their talents while promoting healthy, sustainable, and creative cooking practices. Dr. Rosy Kumari also introduced Ms. Vishnu Priya, Co-Coordinator of Zaika, along with the student leaders: Ms. Safiqua Salman (President), Ms. Lakshami Kumari (Secretary), and Mr. Shemon Gupta (Treasurer).
The highlight of the event was the No-Fire Cooking Competition, where participants demonstrated their skills by preparing delectable dishes without using fire. Creative offerings such as Cheesy Sandwich, Chana Chaat, Oreo Pudding, Guava Chutney, Bread Chamcham, and Coconut Laddoo and many more healty or delicious dishes. Delighted both the audience and judges. The panel of judges included Dr. Shobha Srivastava, Head of the Department of Zoology, and Dr. Shazia Husain, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science. The dishes were evaluated based on presentation, taste, colour, texture and nutritional value.
Following careful evaluation, the judges announced the winners:
1st Place: Group C – Muskan Kumari and Tanya Verma
2nd Place: Group B – Ishita Raj and Heba Ashraf
3rd Place: Group F – Amisha Kumari, Faiza Monauuer, and Tahira Faiyaz
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Safiqua Salman, acknowledging the participants, judges, and the organizing committee for their contributions to the competition’s success. Both judges also provided valuable feedback to the participants for their future culinary endeavors.
