On the occasion of International Biodiversity Day, 22nd May, 2023, Srishti Club of Department of Geography and Eco Taskforce, of Department of Zoology in collaboration with Tarumitra organized a Poster Making Competition along with an enlightening session regarding importance of biodiversity. The Chief Guest for the event was Shri Shashikant Kumar (IFS) DFO, Park Division, Patna. The special Invitee for the event was Father Robert Athikal (Founder, Tarumitra), and the resource person was Col. Amit Sinha, Commanding Officer, Bihar Girls Battalion, NCC.
Dr. Shobha Srivastava, Head, Department of Zoology, and Vice President, Eco Task Force, addressed the gathering and emphasized the issues that affect Biodiversity. She also discussed the important measures that need to be taken for the conservation of Biodiversity and threw light on the importance of Sustainable Development.
Resource Person, Col. Amit Sinha, addressed the arena and illuminated the audience with a power-point presentation accompanied by self-captured pictures on the topic ‘Biodiversity in Bihar’, which depicted the biodiversity of various areas of Bihar. He also brought attention to the Stakeholders who immensely contribute to preservation of the Environment.
Ms. Meenakshi Mishra, Coordinator, Srishti Club, enlightened the audience with the various institutional initiatives such as landscaping and Biodiversity Conservation, green policies, Biodiversity audit, Water Audit, and Energy Audit taken for the conservation of the environment by Patna Women’s College and took the audience on a virtual tour of the College’s Green Campus through a PPT presentation. She also mentioned the fact that more than 22% of the entire college campus is under green cover.
Further, Father Robert Athikal addressed the arena where he appreciated and acknowledged the green initiatives taken by Patna Women’s College.
Shri Shashikant Kumar shared his life experiences and how he developed an interest in the field of biodiversity.
Altogether 23 groups participated in Poster Making competition. The judges for the competition were Dr. Debjani Sarkar Ghose, Head Department of Geography; Dr. Jaya Philip, Head Department of Microbiology; and Dr. Pinky Prasad, Head Department of Botany.
The event concluded with the Srishti Anthem followed by the Environment protection pledge by one of the NCC Cadets. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Tejaswi Kumari, Environment and Discipline Secretary, Student Council 2023-24, Patna Women’s College. Ms. Meenakshi Mishra, Co-ordinator of Srishti Club, Assistant Professor, of the Department of Geography moderated the event. The entire event took place under the guidance of Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal, Patna Women’s College. Dr. Debjani Sarkar Ghose, Head, Department of Geography; Dr. Bidhu Rani, Secretary of Lion Club of Harmony; Ms. Shweta, President Inner Wheel Club, Patna, Dr. Amrita Chowdhury, Coordinator IQAC, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography; Dr. Vinita Priyadarshi, Head, Department of Political Science and Faculty members from the Department of Zoology and Geography were also present in the event.
