On 27th March 2023, An online guest lecture on ‘Tackling Challenges in Crime Reporting: A Gender Based Discussion’ was organised by the Department of Mass Communication,Patna Women’s College. The keynote speaker was Managing Editor, Aaj Tak and Crime Tak, Mr Shams Tahir Khan.

The lecture began with the introduction of the speaker by the Head of Department, Mass Communication, Ms Roma. Having an experience of more than 30 years in the field of crime reporting, Shams Tahir Khan shared his field experiences with the students giving them an insight of the field. “Journalism is very unpredictable. Anyone who visions a 9 to 5 job should not join media”, said Mr Khan interacting with the students. The students also asked various questions related to the topic which he answered sportingly. “Challenges are in every field but if we talk about crime, it’s a step ahead because one doesn’t have an idea what will happen and when”, said the speaker when asked about the challenges one faces in crime reporting. However, he was happy to share that now more women are joining crime beats in media which is helping in covering sensitive stories and also giving them new dimensions.

At the end of the session Ms Ankita, Assistant Professor, Mass Communication proposed the vote of thanks. The session was attended by the undergraduate students of semester II, IV and VI along with PGDJMC semester II. During the session, faculty members of the department, Ajay Kumar Jha, Prashant Ravi, Divya Gautam and Aprajita Pathak were present.
